I had been waiting for Airtel to launch their DTH services. The company has already massively delayed their IPTV service launch.

Airtel has made some interesting offers. They are offering a universal remote control which should remove the hassle for most people to manage two remotes.

It sucks to use a different remote just to shut down the television set. Considering all the other functions are rendered useless by this DTH technology.

I don’t get it. Why cannot we have television sets in the market which are designed for use with a DTH STB? If we buy a regular television set, we do not end up using most of the hardware present within it.

Another cool feature of the Airtel STB is that it would remember the channel you were on if the STB restarts due to power failure. This option is very much required in all the other STBs. It sucks to land on Zee promo channel every time I turn on the STB connected to Dad’s television set.

Anyways, Airtel Digital TV seems like a reasonable option and I just might get it in the coming months for my own personal use. I just did not like the mess I get into whenever I get a Zee DISH TV connection.

Reliance Big TV lost a customer today

I have been waiting for Reliance since last couple of months. The company just has not got the things right and they have been keeping me and many other people waiting.

I had to get a second DTH connection for home and I ended up getting another crappy Zee Dish TV connection.

And I would be stuck with it for one full year as that’s the promotional offer I picked up.

Cable is indeed much cheaper when it comes to television in India. And looking at what my cable guy has to offer, Zee does not have all the channels.

If only the cable guy starts behaving like sane people… they would not lose customers like me to DTH.

Renewing Zee Dish TV online using a Credit Card

I had good reasons not to go ahead with this. But I went ahead…

And luckily it worked fine! You have to go to the Renew My Package page on their website. Enter your Viewing Card number. After that you get the option to pick the package you want to purchase and the duration.

They use ICICI engine for the online payment which made me a bit more confident. Everything went fine though it took them more than an hour after the payment to re-activate my connection.

But then… it worked!

Zee Dish TV Headaches

Some channels have stopped working due to signal problem I assume. And today, the remote control stopped working.

I changed the cells from the AC remote. Still no use. I would try once more tomorrow by getting brand new cells.

I hate it when this happens. Especially with companies where you are not sure what kind of support you would get.

I tried calling Zee Dish TV support. It took a while before I got a person on the other hand. And she got me to do the routine crap like reseting the STB, reprogramming all the channels.

When that did not work, she put me on hold to get some help from some other person at the call center. I waited for a while and then gave up.

I would try to get some help from the shop which sold me the connection. I need that remote to work. Otherwise, it’s as good as useless for me.
