Bad day at work!
Flickr and Private Media Content
I understand that Flickr does not want me to upload video content that is not self generated. The service deleted one of the videos I had stored on the service which was not homemade.
The funny thing is that the video was marked as private. Still I think they reviewed it. Saw it and decided to nuke it.
So, do I now believe that all my personal photos which are marked private are visible to the reviewers at Flickr?
Now that makes me rethink on whether I want to upload any of my personal photos to this Yahoo owned service.
Flickr might be a photo ‘sharing’ site but they allow me to keep my photos private. I expect them to keep these photos as private and do not give the right to view them to their reviewers as well.
Update: I have started the process of finding a way to download all the images I have hosted on Flickr just in case they find my account too infringing and remove it some fine day.
It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be painful. They have been nice to me. I have been nice to them. It has been a fine relationship.
Flickr does Videos too!
Flickr has finally added support for videos. Don’t think I would be using it much. I do not even have them saved on my comp :( A lot of them were stored on the desktop which got destroyed in the fire…
The 90 second time limitation is disappointing. They could have it at 5 minutes. 1.5 minutes is not much content :D I am pretty sure that the company would soon come under serious pressure to enhance this limit…
Update: Ok tried some demo videos, the quality of converted videos is pretty good. I guess I need to get a camera that can do videos now!
Apple Safari can download streaming videos
Just found out a great feature of the Apple Safari web browser. The browser comes with an Activity feature which displays all the downloading components on a web page. And this includes the streaming videos on sites like YouTube and Apple QuickTime.
Can come very handy when you do not want to use third party tools or look into your browser’s cache folder after completing the download…
