ATM Headache

A quick question. How many of you have faced problems where the ATM machine did not give out any money. You receive a transaction rejected message. But the money was still deducted from your account. And it was not reversed back automatically. So you had to raise the problem with the bank. Which took as long as 5-6 months to fix the glitch. That too even after receiving a complaint from the consumer court?

State Bank of India has done it two times to my dad.

SBI and ICICI ATM Hassle

I had to go out to get cash from ATMs of both ICICI and SBI.

I managed to get the cash from the second ICICI machine I checked. SBI required three tries.

Looked like most ATM machines in Gurgaon were just empty today.

And this is when the banks are working hard on ensuring their customers that there is no credit crunch.

I wish ATMs today were as usable as they were few years back. Things worked and you did not face much trouble.

State Bank of India ATM Madness

Sector 31 Gurgaon. It has developed so much in the past couple of years. We have ATMs of ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Andhra Bank and even Yes Bank. But no State Bank of India.

So, I have to drive to a far off ATM whenever my dad has to withdraw some money. It is a painful experience considering the place where I go to has little space to park during office hours.

So, I decided to drive down there this fine Saturday morning hoping I would complete his work easily.

All went well till the time I tried withdrawing the money. I tried several times, and each time the ATM machine threw a parchee on my face showing an error message (Cannot Withdraw Funds).

I checked the balance. It was good enough. Still no luck.

I guess the machine was out of cash. With no security guard in sight, I had no option but to come back empty handed (actually I had a couple of those slips with the error message).

I come back to hear from dad that the Bank issued two check books on account creation and they went ahead and deducted Rs. 50 for the second one. This was neither requested nor required.

Awesomeness.
