Standard Chartered India has a mobile app!

Though it is named Breeze India (!) and requires Adobe Air to be installed on Google Android.

Such a wonderful bank. It cannot provide a native app that does not require a third party component that a lot of us would love to keep away from our phones.

Reviews are fun to read… I got rid of it as soon as it asked me to install Adobe Air. No thank you.

Do us a favor… Create a mobile website instead. And hire a better tech company to manage your backend.

System requirements? Breeze works on devices with Android v2.2 (and above) running on a 1-GHz processor. Neat!

Standard Chartered continues to annoy me

Another update on Standard Chartered Insanity

I visited their branch today to get some printed statements. I was told that they could only give me statements from June 2010. Anything before that? I would have to file a request and collect it after 3-4 working days.

I was told that they do not keep older records in their local system because it overloads them. They simply do not have access to statements older than one year on their computers.

This felt like I was dealing with a sarkari bank in the 1990s. I mean what kind of a backend operation Standard Chartered India has if they cannot provide access to one year old account statements to their branches even? I mean are they using Microsoft Access for data storage? Seriously, they really need to look into it. Hire a better company to provide them with better technology solutions.

I realize that this might be the tenth post on the same topic. But what CAN I do when the annoyances continue?

I have sent three requests to their online support team to send me printed bank statements. I have clearly mentioned that I realize that they charge (a big amount) for the same. And I give them authorization to deduct the charges from my account.

All the time, they respond back with the same bullcrap. You can access the last six months (wow, I am impressed) statement from the backend. Older statements would require printouts which are paid.

I guess, I would now have to visit their branch to get this done. I bet the branch people would direct me to send a request to their online/telephone customer care division.

Had another annoying experience with their online banking today. I was trying to add a payee to my online banking backend. To make a bank to bank transfer. They sent me an OTP to add the new payee. And even after that, they required me to call their phone support to activate the same. I was required to give more authorization details to get this process done. So basically, they had multiple levels of security in place for this process:

1. I need to know my online banking user ID

2. I need to know my online banking password

3. I need to have access to the mobile phone with number registered with them

4. I need to know my bank account number

5. I need to know my Telephone authentication pin number

6. I need to know the expiry date of my debit card

7. I need to know the password of my debit card

8. I need to know a recent transaction from my bank account

I can only pacify myself by knowing that this is all because of safety reasons and it is for my own good.

Should add here that the bank does not have a toll free number for banking accounts. And it might take you a couple of minutes before you are able to talk to a real human being on the other side.

I am actually switching back to ICICI Bank for my daily banking. I am tired of the mess Standard Chartered has not resolved for years now related to easy access to my banking and credit card statements. It has become a headache to get duplicate copies through their customer support division.

Annoyance: Standard Chartered India does an Airtel

Converts my mom’s account to e-statements. The backend panel has no option to revert back to paper statements.

And of course, they make it extremely hard to get your statements even online. You only have access to three months worth of transactions on their backend.

They do provide 12 months worth of PDF statements but only if you have opted to receive statements by email. And only after the day you enable that option. WTF.

So, in simple terms… You cannot have both paper and e-statements. If you opt for paper statements, you lose your rights to have access to 12 months worth of statements online through PDF. In any case, you cannot access more than 90 days worth of transactions in their backend.

I have no idea why I am continuing doing banking with Standard Chartered India.

Standard Chartered India continues to send me the same old crap when I ask them to fix their system…

I regret to advise you that due to the system constraint, you will be able to view only last three months transactions through our internet banking. However, a print of your online statements can also be taken by accessing the Print option on the top right hand corner of your Personal Home Page.

Of course, asking for a printed statement costs like 150 bucks for each page.

Standard Chartered India does something good and bad

I have been very annoyed with the way Standard Chartered India provides online access to your banking details.

They still do not provide a quick way to access your statements that are older than 90 days.

However, they have taken some steps which helps. But only partially.

They have added a new section to their backend named eStatements. As the name suggests, this provides access to your statements in PDF format.

This is pretty cool and handy.

The problem?

Only the last 12 months worth of statements are accessible.

You can view the eStatements that we have sent to you during the last 12 months below. If your e-statement registration is less than a year old, eStatements sent to you after the date of registration will be available. To download the eStatement for a particular month, please click on the month. Credit Card eStatements for last 12 months will be available from 1-Nov-2009 onwards.

I have no idea what is wrong with providing eStatements for the entire period the account has been active. How much space is that going to consume? A couple of megabytes for each customer?

When you charge 800 rupees per year for a debit card and have a reputation for being a premium banking service provider… I guess this is what I get in return.

Standard Chartered India CONTINUES to annoy me

Update: Alright. Here is what I have realized now. Standard Chartered India only provides soft copy option for the last six months. To get statements from before that period, you would need to ask for hard copies that costs Rs. 150 plus taxes PER MONTH. Freaking awesome. Standard Chartered India has just lost one customer.

I asked them to send me soft copies of my statements on my email ID. And this is what I receive:

I wish to inform you that the statement for a period beyond three months you will need to place a request and a duplicate statement will be sent to you at a charge. The duplicate statements are charged at Rs.110.00 per statement, for a period pertaining to less than three months old and Rs.165.45 per statement for a period more than three months old.
