Google Gmail was down for a lot of people last night.
I was sleeping through the whole ordeal but it is not a new thing.
Gmail hiccups mean you should use Gears and/or IMAP/POP

Hotmail has free POP/SMTP support now!
I missed on this news for some reason. They enabled this feature for free accounts last month.
Gmail: receive mails through POP at multiple locations!
If you are using Gmail through POP and are downloading messages at multiple locations… you would have noticed that the service delivers the messages to the first machine only. The second machine does not get the messages which have been downloaded by the first machine.
