So, election results came out day before and the government did not waste another day in announcing a major hike in the price of petrol.
It is up by around Rs. 5. This comes to around 9%. This is insane.
I believe in some places, you would be paying close to around Rs. 70 per liter of petrol. Maybe more.
I switched to diesel cars around 3 years ago because I was tired of dealing with the regular hike in petrol prices. Diesel is usually spared as it is used by public transport. It won’t be long before they start targeting diesel as well.
What is the next best option? There is none. Public transport sucks. Hiring a private auto or car costs a lot more. the government continues to claim that oil companies are still losing money and another price hike is coming up. They would not lower the taxes that pretty much double the retail pricing of petrol. The money oil companies is supposedly losing is what they are paying to the government itself. Just fix the damn taxation structure. Control inflation. Let people live their lives.
