Dell UltraSharp U2711 is a bitch and Dell India is not helping

Update on Sharan Shetty case:

Dell finally sent a replacement.

But no… It is not a new unit. It is not even the same model. Instead of sending him a new unit of Dell U2711, Dell sent him an old model named wfp2707. And this unit is also not new. It was apparently returned by some other customer based in Bangalore.

And the details of this is mentioned right on the replacement unit’s box!

So, Dell expects the customer to take a second hand defective unit as a replacement for a model that is in fact a premium display that comes with a premium replacement warranty for three years. This is getting rather unbelievable and insane.

Dell UltraSharp U2711 is one of the most expensive LCD model Dell has on sale in the Indian market.

I purchased it for around Rs. 52,000. I know three other folks who owns this particular model.

Only one of them has a properly working piece. My unit has bright pixel problem. I hate discussing the problems with Dell customer care people because they try to make it sound like it is all your fault. I plan to keep an eye on my friend’s experience and do the needful myself. Another friend had the same problem and he got his replacement unit today. He is still checking whether the replacement unit is working properly.

I know of this another case where the display has major issues with colors. Sharan Shetty has been seeking a replacement for his U2711 unit for a while now. Dell has been delaying the replacement often giving lame excuses.

Here is a video he shot…

The video description has all the details on his bad experience.

Frankly speaking… If Dell cannot give a proper warranty on a display panel that costs around Rs. 50,000, I would stop recommending Dell to anyone.

Dell India has to fix their customer support. Premium panels deserves a premium quality warranty. If the panel is defective, it should be replaced asap.

My desktop’s RAM got fried a couple of weeks ago. Transcend took way too long and in the process I managed to damage the old jaded motherboard that ran a dual core processor.

I decided to take the plunge. Quad Core processor it would be for me now.
