Yohoo! Ice Cream Sandwich!

Google did not deliver it. I waited for around a month. Was getting bored tonight and got some help on Google Plus. Went ahead with the manual process using the official build. Took me less than 15 minutes to get it updated. And it seems to be doing great.

I have had a couple of disappointments. But overall, it is a much much better experience compared to Gingerbread.

Seriously loving the ability to take screenshot on my phone!

I wonder why Google does not backup SMS on Android platform

I decided to format my phone today because it had become terribly slow.

Ironic. Isn’t it? Android is pretty much like Windows when it comes to performance.

In any case, I think the only data I lost in the process were the text messages. Apart from that, almost everything else was backed up in the cloud.

I had the option of backing up texts using a third party app. decided against it. But still. There must be a good reason why Google is not offering cloud backup of text messages!

Flickr launches their official Google Android app

And it sucks.

Ok. It does most of the basic things. Like taking images. Uploading it to your Flickr account.

It also has filters! Yawn.

It can also post images to other social networks like Twitter, Facebook and even Tumblr.

But it does not do a lot of things.

It cannot sync the photos on the phone with my Flickr account. This was the most basic feature this app should have offered.

It does not even seem to follow my upload settings! Photo uploads were labeled as public when the default setting in my account is private.

The photo taking process is painfully slow. The app tries to mimic Apple iPhone’s camera which I think is horrible.

If you played around with this app… What do you think about it?

Standard Chartered India has a mobile app!

Though it is named Breeze India (!) and requires Adobe Air to be installed on Google Android.

Such a wonderful bank. It cannot provide a native app that does not require a third party component that a lot of us would love to keep away from our phones.

Reviews are fun to read… I got rid of it as soon as it asked me to install Adobe Air. No thank you.

Do us a favor… Create a mobile website instead. And hire a better tech company to manage your backend.

System requirements? Breeze works on devices with Android v2.2 (and above) running on a 1-GHz processor. Neat!

My next computer would be a Google Chromebook

Google launched Chrome OS based Chromebooks earlier this week. They are arriving in the international markets next month. No confirmed plans for the Indian market.

I am eagerly waiting for Samsung/Acer to launch their Chrome OS netbooks here in India so that I can buy one.

My next computer would be a Google Chromebook

I plan to give it to dad who wants a simple device that can check email and show him latest stock market details.

Earlier I was considering getting an Android based Tablet PC but Chromebook makes a lot more sense and that is what he would be getting!

Experience buying from Letsbuy.com

So, I placed an order for LG Optimus One for a friend at Letsbuy.com.

I decided to pay using Cash on Delivery option because I did not want to land in a situation where I made a payment but got a much delayed delivery.

It has been around 5 days now… My accounts page does not show any update on the delivery situation.

Calling Letsbuy.com customer care has been helpless. No one is picking up the phone since yesterday.

Their Facebook page does not allow me to put a message. I checked out existing threads and noticed that other users are facing similar problems with delayed delivery and customer care not responding to phone calls.

I guess not paying through the credit card turned out to be a good decision. From what I heard, they do deliver eventually but the process can take a week or even more. This is pretty sad considering timely delivery would ensure that I would consider them for more orders in the future.

I picked Letsbuy.com over Flipkart because of a discount coupon I found. I guess I would just wait and see what happens now!

I also mailed them a query through email… No responses to that too till now.
