Dell Inspiron 1520 Battery Problem Madness

I am not sure if any of you happen to own this particular model from Dell but I do.

The laptop is just around one year old. And the battery has already gone bad.

I assumed it was my working style which keeps the laptop on power practically all the time.

But when I went on to the Dell website to check out the prices of a new battery, I noticed a couple of things…

There is only one battery model available for this laptop (56 WHr 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Primary Battery).

All the reviews on this battery page points towards my problem. Battery becoming crap within the first year of use!

This makes me believe that Dell delivered a dud with this laptop when it comes to battery power. And since the model is now extinct, I have no choice but to pay Dell money every year for a new battery!

What a shame.

The Nonsense Dell

When I placed the order for the TFT Screen… I was told that it would be delivered to me within a period of two weeks.

It’s already been 9 days that I placed the order. I was hoping to receive the delivery in the next couple of days.

And the company today decided to send me a mail that the order is now in process and it is now being processed for MANUFACTURING.

The delivery date is now scheduled for MAY 07. ONE FULL MONTH for a TFT SCREEN? WTF?

Why Dell Why?

Why cannot I know if the order I had placed last week is actually under process or not?

Why cannot I get status updates from your website?

Why would not your sales officer contact me now that I have placed the order, given him my credit card details and sent him signed copies of the documents he required from my side?

Is this how I am going to be treated now that you have my green stuff while I wait for your black stuff?

DVD Writer on my Laptop crapped out again

I am receiving the same spindle test failed message. I guess I would have to get it replaced again. And this is the first time I am trying to use it after getting it replaced earlier. And that was the first time I was trying to use the drive after getting the notebook itself!

Dell did replace the drive. But they checked out the problem more thoroughly this time around. I thought it was rather clear that there was a problem when Vista just refused to accept the drive and threw it out as soon as I tried accessing it.

Damage from the fire

Still cannot pinpoint a rough figure. The LCD works but is definitely damaged. I don’t think my warranty on this panel cover accidents. I would check out with Dell if they would be able to fix it up. Would have to buy a desktop as a backup machine. Airtel is yet to connect me up.

One suggestion for everyone… Keep backups at a safe place and insure your stuff!

Update: Had a word with Dell Customer Support. The warranty of course did not apply in this case. And they do not offer any kind of repairs on the TFTs. So, I guess I would have to find a way to discard this otherwise perfect monitor and get a new one :(
