Bajaj Pulsar 200 Fuel Tank Problem?

It is raining in Gurgaon. And when I went to get some gas for the Pulsar 200 bike I noticed that there was a lot of water inside the fuel cap around the tank.

Now, I am not sure if this is a good thing to happen or this is common with all Bajaj bikes with the funky looking fuel tank cap. But it certainly does not like good to me.

Pulsar 200 Fuel Tank Problem

Bajaj makes it tough to enjoy Pulsar 200

An update to the experience dealing with the Bajaj Dealer in Gurgaon (Krishna Auto Sales) with regards to the Pulsar 200 my friend acquired.

The dealer no longer has the bike in stock. Looks like the demand is greater than the supplies. Very good for Bajaj.

The problem? The dealer does not even have the spare parts to fix the problems faced by the owners of the few bikes which have been sold in the market.

The bike has developed an issue with some component called cooler (or whatever). Bajaj guys admit it and say it needs to be replaced.

But since they do not have the required spare parts (since the last 20-25 days) they cannot fix it. They say they would have the spares required in the next 10-15 days.

The problem is that he said the same thing 15 days ago. And they still do not have the required spare parts. And he admits that he already has 4-5 more similar cases where the Pulsar 200 has developed leaking problems.

He recommends that we should get the part welded and he would replace the part when it arrives at the dealership.

When we asked him to give it in writing that he WOULD indeed replace the problematic part when a spare arrives at their workshop, he had this to say:

I don’t have any issues in giving you in writing. But what if I refuse to do the needful in the future? What would you do? It does not make any difference at all.

The funny story is that another Bajaj workshop dude practically told my friend that he should NOT go in for the welding solution as it would surely void his warranty and no Bajaj dealer would touch the bike.

I have tried writing to the company but have not received any response yet. I am giving it 10 more days. If the Krishna guys do not get the required spare parts… I would have no option but to go to the customer court.

Here is a suggestion to anyone who is considering buying the Pulsar 200.

Wait. Wait till your local dealership has spares in stock.

For us, it means that we have to wait for at least 2 weeks to take the bike on long trips.

Perhaps God gave me this chance to reconsider

Ok. I have been going nuts over the Pulsar 200 I have been enjoying driving since the last couple of days. And I even have plans to get a performance oriented bike for myself.

But then Brian gave me the link to this video (I remember seeing this episode long time back on BBC). Jeremy Clarkson is quite frank on middle aged men’s desire to ride superbikes. Now, I am not yet there but I am pretty much on my way there.

I almost ended up having a pretty bad accident early morning today. No, I was not driving at high speed. No, I was not driving rash. No, I was not even trying to do a wheelie (though I want to). I was just driving at regular speeds on a pretty average road when I applied breaks… perhaps a bit too hard. And I guess the front wheel jammed. The bike lost its balance and we were practically dancing on the bike which was too eager to fall down taking us with it.

Luckily, we managed to get the bike in control without falling off. Maybe it was my taller body structure or the low center of gravity of the bike… We all ended up safe and sound.

Good thing we had no accident. Otherwise, mom would have totally banned me from riding a two wheeler ever in my life. But then few other people read this blog as well and I expect to hear some yelling.

One thing is clear. I do not plan to change my plans. Why so? Because I test rode Rahul’s Thunderbird just around 30 minutes after the above incident. And by god… that was an AWESOME experience. Maybe, I need to check out the 500 cc model from Enfield. That would be fun I guess. ;)

As that guy says in the Bajaj Avenger advertisement while driving the bike.

I feel like god.

I don’t. I just get a little bit closer to him when I am driving one.

Pulsar 200 rocks but Bajaj Service Centers suck

Ok. Pulsar 200 is awesome. I have already written a bit too much about it. But I am disappointed with the kind of response Bajaj people are showing the minor problems we are facing.

The bike seems to have developed a defect which has resulted in leakage of oil from one of the containers.

Yes, the one month old Pulsar 200 is already facing quality issues with oil leaking from the coolant chambers.

The Bajaj service center dudes do not have the require replacement parts and they are recommending the owner to get the part welded at some shop.

I think it’s time I am going to the service center in Gurgaon and yell a bit at the people who are just trying to get rid of this problem. If that does not work, I am going to contact the people at the company. If that does not work, I guess I would contact Autocar India.

Pulsar 200: I am loving driving a bike

This is a post for people who hate the negativity on this blog. I am loving driving bikes. I am specifically talking about my friend’s Pulsar 200 here. For the first time in my life I guess. Perhaps I am one generation too old. In our times, we just had the Splendors and the CBZs. I could have bought the CBZ way back in 1999 but I made the wrong decision and settled for the Splendor.

I don’t plan to make that mistake again. The next vehicle I buy… is going to be a performance oriented product. And I have a feeling that it would be a motorcycle. I just might get rid of my Swift to get something that could make me feel young. All over again.

I guess I can change my perception and start believing that a glass which is half empty is actually half full.
