Airtel and Vodafone both accepting Apple iPhone 3G bookings

Airtel and Vodafone seem to be playing a funny game with Indian customers.

None of these two companies have revealed the prices or launch date for the iPhone.

Airtel became the first one to allow customers to get some details through a SMS service.

Vodafone then became the first company to accept bookings for the iPhone.

Now Airtel has launched its own booking service for the Apple iPhone.

It’s not really booking considering customers would not ‘book’ the iPhone unless they know the prices, launch data and packages.

They are just collecting information on customers whom they can spam in the future with details on the iPhone.

Stupid PR tactics.

Apple charging premium for MobileMe in India

Apple has replaced .mac service with MobileMe. They are also launching it here in India.

While the US pricing is: USD 99 for individual and USD 149 for Family… the Indian pricing is… no Indian prices. They have put Singapore prices which come to: USD 107 for individual and USD 166 for Family.

Apple MobileMe

This is for a service that is entirely web only! I doubt that it cost them more to deliver data online to Indian customers… Why the price difference?

Apple wants us to go to Hong Kong for iPhone 3G

Apple is funny when it comes to India. They have confirmed the iPhone 3G for India. They have even made an iPhone 3G page on the Apple India website.

The only thing is that the company expects me to go to Hong Kong to get my iPhone.

Apparently, as per Apple… Hong Kong is just somewhere around my house…

Look at this screenshot from the Apple iPhone 3G India page…

Apple is forgetting that they need to mention that I would need a passport, a visa, and a return air ticket to get an iPhone from Hong Kong. They are also forgetting to mention that the iPhone I would get from there would not be the 3G edition and would cost me international roaming while I am here in India.

Apple iPhone 3G in India

So, Apple launched it indeed. And while I was sleeping! And for a lot less price too! Excellent.

All the mobile companies of the world must be shitting in their pants now!

Apple iPhone 3G

Even more exciting is the fact that they are going to launch this new version in India! Apple has proved me wrong!

Update:

The most interesting thing I have read today is that:

Steve Jobs said that the price would be a “maximum of $199″ globally.

This is for the 8GB model. If Apple launches the iPhone 3G 8GB model in India for Rs. 8000… I am sure they are going to sell millions of units in India itself.

Apple is charging 9.95 USD for upgrading Apple iPod Touch to the latest software package! Obscene.

Apple iPhone 3G coming up?

It is rather weird that the iPhone is already out of stock in the UK market. The next generation iPhone is unlikely to appear before next month. That too is a probable situation (highly probable though).

Why would Apple not want to sell the current generation iPhone in the UK market if there is a decent demand? Makes no sense.

Maybe they have locked up all the current generation model units for sale in the third world countries like India…
