Funny thing I never knew that I could use wget on Windows! I like it on Linux. The ability to download file on command prompt is nice. I am going to try using it to download a complete website!

PrefixSuffix: Batch Renaming files on Ubuntu Linux

I was searching for an application to let me rename files on Ubuntu. Windows makes it easy… You just need to select the bunch of file and press F2 to batch rename them. I am using PrefixSuffix application for the same purpose on Linux.
Do let me know if you find a better alternative!

I used to use a Java application to accomplish this but there is this useful application on Linux which makes it easy to find and replace text content in a list of files! The name is KfileReplace.

Similar to my problem hunting for a good download manager… I am yet to find a decent FTP client software on Ubuntu. I want something similar to SmartFTP. I have tried using Filezilla on Ubuntu and it is pathetic when compared to the version on the Windows platform. gFTP also does not feel right…

I am yet to find something which is as good as Flashget. Gwget is usable. Kget is painful. I guess I would stick with Firefox’s add-on DownThemAll!

I was looking for a solution to this problem and found this application which seems to be a possible alternative to using a Switch…
