Insanity Rediscovered

I am living in a democratic country. I am sensible enough to vote to elect my representative in the government. But if I want to buy a beer at 4 am in the morning, I cannot. Not because people don’t want to sell it, but because the government thinks people should not drink after midnight. [...]

I can vote to choose the country’s prime minister at 18. I can choose to die a painful death by marrying at 21. But, pubs in India cannot serve me beer till I am 25! Damn… How do you expect a 21 year old married guy to survive through his 4 years of marriage?

So, today is India’s Republic Day. Great. But someone needs to tell me why our national holidays are actually holidays? Is it the right way to celebrate the greatness of our country by sitting (or sleeping) at home doing nothing productive?
