Greetings of the Day!!

As part of our constant endeavor to bring the best in class service to our most valued customers, we are making an effort to secure web hosting services @ Net4, by restricting usage of certain vulnerable content types (specific file extensions) from being served by our web hosts.

On account of this, you would not be able to upload the list of extensions mentioned below to any of our web hosts effective 02nd February 2006, be it shared (or) split (or) dedicated hosting. Further, files with such extensions would be removed from our web hosts by 20th February 2006.

In effect to this action, if you have uploaded content with such file extensions earlier, and you are worried (or) feel that this might in some or the other way affect the services rendered to you, kindly get in touch with our helpdesk to find a suitable remediation in order to avoid any kind of disruption to services. Any request for assistance in this regard necessarily needs to be looked at, before 20th February 2006.

So basically they tell you to zip, rar or 7z all files with those extentions, which you probably already did with any over 1MB or so... however mpeg, mp3, avi and such do not seem very dangerous to me...

and well, i don't think they had any idea on what 7z is. and probably they forgot to include zips!

I took a quick glance yesterday and noticed *.bat, *.pif, *.key and things like that. Damn, no .htaccess? No rar? Sorry mate, the possibility didn't even cross my mind really.

I'm surprised that they didn't exclude JPEG though. It has caused its share of security concerns via the Windows GDI... ;)

How the hell does one implement access control in apache without .htaccess?? As for the archives, it doesn't look like gunzip (.gzip) or tar balls (.tar) are blocked. Note that they also block *.vir. Thats because all virii use this extension. Didn't you know? Thats how norton anti-virus works. Really!

What a bunch of Jokers ? I call the Delhi office and some stupid babe with an accent tells me that if I give them the list of files that is against their policy, they will be happy to rename the extensions ...

Heehee, I had the heartiest laugh of my life. I told them that I'm putting up a site for Sivamani and could they replace all the audio files with a .html extension ? Believe me, she said Yes ! I then told her that I wanted my .shtml files to be renamed .shit as they dint block .shit. She was hesitant, but said she would ask her superiors :-)

I've already sent a mail to NASSCOM about Net4's level of competence. More would be merrier.

I stopped hosting with them about a year back and only do Domain regisration through them. I'm stopping that too after this show of stupidity..

Check out ModHost - www.modhost.com. I've something like 10 sites on their servers and they rock...

Thank god Net4Domains never replied my email about hosting a MP3 website :D otherwise i would be ending up renaming all my .mp3 to .txt :D. I was impressed by their unlimited data transfer deals.

they are blocking even .log and .tcl . don't these guys know how to read the header or mime type from a uploaded file and block non-text file, that can atleast allow so many text format files.

I am too planning to shift my domains to some other vendor. Good I never hosted with N4I. Too costly and pathetic service as compared to other hosting services

this is so funny, if out of date, I was googling, and you this comes on the first page.

Is net4domains still alive, am surprised, they were king in india some years ago, now nothing. I hosted with them some years ago, now no more. I called them to speak to management, no one there, left message, and no call back.

Hi all,

I had hosted a website since 4 years with net4domains. As many of you have experienced, I would say rather DO NOT contact the customer support. You have to keep asking and asking through a series of "Trouble Tickets" until you feel irritated to set a small thing right.

Last week, I had fed up with the trouble ticket and called their bangalore office only to find a gut answer my call and disconnect in the middle of the conversation.

It was so irritating to have everything under their control after I keep them paid for so called "services".

Now I am planning to transfer my 2 domains from Net4Domains to another web hoster. Hope Net4 will provide me the "Authorization Code" to enable the transfer.

As usual, I have opened a trouble ticket requesting the same but anyone got an idea what has to be done if they start refusing to give it ? Any legal action can be taken against them ??

Also my sincere advice, DO NOT GO FOR NET4DOMAINS TO REGISTER A DOMAIN OR HOST YOUR WEBSITE !!

I'm not amuzed with the support team at all. They definitely need some coaching to handle the customers who have paid for the services. I'm having a tough time to say the least.

I had to make outstation call (to Noida) to get tech support from Net4. The operator picks up and states that all engineers are busy and took my number to call back. They didn't disappoint me. They didn't return any call. I then called again after 6 hrs just to hear the phone ringing sound till I disconnected the call. To my surpise, the call was charged.

Should I still stick with Net4?

I have a genuine Technical problem if anybody can help. I need to know what file upload component does Net4 use so that I can use that in my website to send attachments through the browser. Pls mail me at skumarrk@gmail.com

Hi,

Even i am experiencing the same problem with net4india, i want to transfer a domain from net4india to other service provider and i am tryng to call the customer care from almost from past one week and no one picks up the call.

i have already spent lot of money on the phone call itself. and in the bangalore office also no one picks up the call.

Now my client is upset and decided to book a new domain name with some other service provider

Pls do not host with them. They are also not giving us the freedom to change the CHMOD to writable (777). If we would like to change the chmod , we have to contact the support desk.... This is the stupid thing I ever heard... I hosted a domain with them, after this stupid thing, I changed to another hosting provider. Now no problem..... I wasted my time for 6 months..... Again I said " DO NOT HOSTED WITH NET4"

i have a partner panel with net4 i have dedicated hosting with them with splitting pack. very poor and pathetic customer services, and even new built control panel is cheap in quality and all important features are not working.

really it is disgusted and i am not recommending to anybody to have serivces with them

Hi guys! What you say about this service provider is still true when it comes to their customer support. I tried to book this site with my credit card. They charged me twice for the same domain. Endless phone calls to their customer support provided me with nothing. Finally they agreed to credit the amount... i think around Rs. 3000 odd back to my credit card. This after sending them those trouble tickets. I have not received this money till date. All my trouble tickets have been deleted by their people. So I sorta have no proof that i sent them those tickets. Plus my original invoices have been changed on their site to show that they have charged me just one time for the domain. Cheats!!!
