Rang De Basanti

Oh well, we did manage to get tickets for this new movie of Aamir Khan. We were surprised indeed considering we reached pretty late and their was enough crowd around to make us believe that the show would be houseful.

The sad point was that I knew the story of the movie… so it was not that much fun for me. The movie raises a valid point, which was well covered in a recent movie from Mani Ratnam, Yuva. You can change the country for the better in two ways. Similar to what happened during the independence. Their was Gandhi who followed the path of non-violence. And then their was this other group of extemists who believed that violence was the way to go…

The movie showcases the other point of view but does manage to reflect that this might not be the best way out. There are traces of history deeply integrated in the storyline of the movie, which gets irritating at times. But it is a lot better product when we compare the last one of Aamir Khan.

Rang De Basanti

The first part is delicious and reminds me of the good times in Dil Chahta Hai. The second part is sad and gloomy like it was again in DCH. But the storyline is all about patriotism, which has now become a clichéd subject for filmmakers. The storyline mocks the BJP and RSS philosophy and probably is based in their times of governance. Perhaps, this is the reason why it managed to get permission to release despite containing a huge propaganda against the defense ministry of India and the MIG planes.

You should perhaps go and see this movie as I would probably go and see it again. The sound track is amazing and the picturisation is fantastic. The story has certain flaws but then it is hard to make a perfect movie in today’s times. It is interesting that the film was stuck for the weirdest of reasons of using a couple of animals in certain scenes. There are more shocking instances in the movie, which should have got this movie into trouble. It did however with the air force and other branches of Indian military forces.

But, the point is valid and there are enough reasons to give serious thoughts on how and why Mig planes keep on crashing on regular basis. The Indian air force would be hoping that no plane crashes during the time this picture stays in halls and people are reminded of the storyline of the movie!

You actually wrote that whole post in one go??… I m amazed !! :)
I really liked your last line in the post…. cos public memory is not as short as it has been said in the movie.

It was definately better than Mangal Pandey !!
I dont think there is any similarity between Rang de and DCH apart from the fact that its about friends and the happy n gloomy bit. While DCh had more urban look.. Rang de is more of a feel of delhi … the collge feel throughout.. though its a seperate issue that they have made Indian Habitat Centre into the Delhi University campus…!!

U will always come across a haryanvi jat - sukhi, a hard core punju turned hep…. Daljeet urf Dj, a subtle muslim - aslam, a rich not flambouyant but silent…. karan, a tomboyish… yet girly - sonia
Look around… you will find many of these characters in your own friend circle.

The dialogues definately won accolades…Movie has all the ingredients for a hit

it has humour ….” tu ni sudharna… aye dudh dena band kar degi”… kiron kher reffering to the cow…being tortured by amir khan by his dialogues…lol

fun ….” sue kar mere mann ko kiya tune kya isara”

reality ….” college ke gate ke is paar hum duniya ko nachate hai aur us paar duniya hume… tum lak lak tum tum lak lak” amir to sue

” sabka the end hota hai.. bas the end ka style different hota hai”

And ofcourse …Profanity which has been used in a subdued yet open way….from the start of the movie with ” teri ma ki ankh” and goes on with the subtle use of ” behn di takki” every now and then.

My fav character definately was sukhi.. the haryanvi jat…
“aslam ki gali… khali balli khalli balli khalli balli, hum to hai talli talli, na bhula mein apne yaar ki galli… lamba mera yaar choti uski galli”

And the one that really moved me was Karan… i guess its been played by sidharth… with a lot of ease… n attitude i must say !! (loved him in the movie !!)

    Fav scene… Madhavan’s cremation !!

Music rocked !! That is how i can just try to describe it…I loved it when they tried to show a scene from past… Amir as a freedom fighter running away from police.. on a bike and the background score was quite contemprory !!
It was this mix n match of old new… dat kepes u glued to the movie till the end !!

long posts? i do it at once. used to recheck the post contnet. now dont even do that. looks like have got bored with too much writing in a day including my work profile…

about the movie… yeah. the mixing of past and present is interesting but gets irritating at times with sue and her old days memories. but nicely done overall.

my fav dialogue was from aamir which went like this… ek tang to past main hai dujee future main, tabhi to beech main moot rahey hai… :p something like that, have a bad memory for these things.

the kiss scene between aamir and sue was a forced addition, maybe to justify the ending when aamir confeses his love while dying. but we all know that with aamir a kiss is mandatory requirement of his contract for signing a film :p

my favorite character? it would be shared between sue and karan… :)

    the movie rocked !!!!
sharman was amazing.he’s my fav character!!!! karan an aslam were good to.soha kinda looked pretty.scintillating dialogues made the best part of the movie.

  6. insomaniac Says:

well… i guess for once .. other characters emerged as good as amir!!
and as far as the kiss scene … yah we know it… its mandatory :-p

Just to add the viewpoint of a random American girl, I loved this movie. And Aslam was hot.

    That is all

  8. Frustated Says:

I thought the movie was excellent ..yet cant help but feel a bit of frustation. Frustation because it makes you want to do something but dont know what. Apart from being a very well made movie, it is extremely hard hitting. A movie with a message

  13. Gaurav Aidasani Says:

First of all what an excellent movie!! I was left without words towards the end with tears in my eyes…and a frustration that wanted to come out. Secondly, I can’t seem to get the song that Sukhi keeps on singing out of my head!! “aslam ki gali… khali balli khalli balli khalli balli, hum to hai talli talli, na bhula mein apne yaar ki galli… lamba mera yaar choti uski galli”
It seems very familiar…does anyone know if this is actually a song or if there’s a similar one? or is it just me imaging things?! thanks…send ur reply to gauravma@yahoo.com
    Thanks!!
