A piece of news shocked the members of the India Broadband Forum. Apparently the cops in our land have started tracking IPs being used to download/upload pirated copies of movies.
This is probably just the beginning. In addition to seeking a ban on file sharing services, movie studios in India are probably going to seek something similar to keep an eye on piracy through torrent networks.
I am not supporting internet piracy here. I am just saying that things are getting worse and once this widespread, you can be sure that the government would ask ISPs to keep a track of everything that a customer does online.
I have been using a paid VPN service for a couple of months now. It adds to the internet expense. Browsing becomes a bit laggy. But the privacy benefits are massive. I do not like the idea of airtel keeping a record of everything I do online. You should be scared too.
This is what I would suggest to anyone who cares about this. Get a paid VPN service operated by people who take user privacy seriously.
