Why not Internet Explorer?
If you are one of the lost souls who visited this page curious to know why this site looks trash in your web browser, then perhaps you are using one of (or the latest in fact) version of the very famous browser called Internet Explorer.
And if you saw the site in its full glory and visited this page just to check out what it’s all about, then congrats. You are one of the fortunate few to have shifted away from the piece of shit they call Internet Explorer.
Frankly, I don’t have anything against the company called the Microsoft. In fact I am a great fan of this individual known as Bill Gates . But sometimes, greatest souls commit the gravest of errors. Bill has many to his name (Microsoft Bob being one of them) but this thing called the Internet Explorer beats them all.
Now. Why I am not interested in making stuff for Internet Explorer as such?
Well, there are many reasons. I will specify 2.
Microsoft has stopped active development of the browser Internet Explorer which is distributed freely and is supported till some pretty old OSs from them. Or that is what I have heard. So this means for the people stuck with the current generation operating systems of Microsoft are stuck with the version of Internet Explorer they currently have. The best I heard was that they would be adding a popup blocker to Internet Explorer in the Windows XP sp2 update (big deal). This means, people not using XP are left on their own. No upgrades no compliance to future technologies.
Microsoft doesn’t make normal websites. Hell their sites don’t even have DTD declarations. They don’t check their sites whether they work on non IE browsers or not. MSNBC, the premier news portal of the company in question specifically blocks Opera (that is the browser of choice of the author of this piece of shit) from its main page. Instead mortal souls like me get to see an awfully stripped down version of the main site. This happens when the other non IE browsers (and Opera IDed as IE) have access to the main site which is totally unacceptable. The site obviously does not perform in the other browsers at the same levels as it performs in Internet Explorer. But to specifically block 1 particular browser is rather very pathetic in my opinion and deserves some protest from a fan of the browser in question. I might be doing the same, but I am doing this after 6 months of supporting Internet Explorer as the browser to this website while still seeing the same shit being churned out from the MS stables on their websites.
Yahoo mail too has some serious issues with specifically blocking out Opera one of the JavaScript required by it but at least the basic functionality is maintained.
If Microsoft can make the new hotmail work in Opera (IDed as Opera) then why not MSNBC?
I can make this site work in Internet Explorer. But I choose not to.
You don’t want to visit again, your choice. It’s a protest for opening the web and supporting alternate browsers.

It’s amazing, there are people out there that are still using that MS internet explorer shit. I don’t get it, why??? Unlike Opera, Netscape the new Firefox, which are UP-TO-DATE with technology, MSIE hasn’t advanced almost at all since I first began browsing the web back in 1994.
Microsoft is slowing down the world’s progress with shit software!

At least half the people who use a computer can barely turn the thing on. It’s no suprise that very few (or not enough) have abandoned explorer. What is a surprise is why a company as rich and powerful as Microsoft isn’t ashamed of their piece of garbage browser and the misery it creates for countless people across the world. Especially since going online is by far the number one reason anyone uses a computer. Bill gates should take some small fraction of his billions, hire some serious people, and fix this fucking mess called explorer. It should be a masterpiece with the resources these people have.

While hacking out all of the bloat of WindowsXP Professional (stipped down until it becomes NT + Win98 extentions) results in a very impressive, powerful, and stable operating system; but I just can not use Internet Explorer because it is just too much of a security risk.
FireFox IS the ultimate secure and powerful defacto standard browser for Windoze (and Linux?), but I do miss IE’s FTP file folder integration which mimics XP local file explorer. (Haven’t integrated FTP file browsing into ForeFox yet…)
So I still use IE on a limited basis. But everytime I do use IE, it will eventually get hijacked by some stupid website, spyware/fuckware. (Thank goodness for 4GL and Ghost)
I would like to say to the Microsoft clan: “YOU DON’T OWN THE WORLD, just the newvians. As new generations are born and grow up with computers, more will start making their own operating systems and game consoles. And soon, X will no longer mark the spot.”

I would rather browse the internet via wet pieces of string and a black n white tv than use wanky IE. Its utter toss and the more they update it the tossier it becomes. Good on you Netscape, opera, firefox even bloody AOL.

IE is a web designer’s nightmare. While browsers such as firefox and opera follow the general standards IE seems to go of on its own making its own rules. For instance, the margins for IE differ from just about every other browser and have to be customised for browser compatibility : a real pain.
As you have already pointed out IE isn’t updating anymore, a contrast to browsers such as firefox which offer really handy web developer tools and are always expanding.
Also, the fact that Microsoft does not allow rival browsers to view their sites is a disgraceful act of snobbish rivalry unparalled by other browsers. Is it not time for Microsoft to grow up and stop these childish games?
