I just had a rather amusing conversation with a Tata Indicom representative.
The call was related to my low usage on their connection I have owned for a couple of years now. Ever since I switched to the Google N1, I rarely use the older connection I have on Tata. I still retain it largely because of the number. Also because, I have more faith in it compared to Aircel when I am going out of town.
Anyways. I told him that I am using a GSM connection nowadays and that is the reason for my low usage on the Indicom connection.
He asked me the reason why I switched to GSM.
I responded that they do not support the phone I want to use.
He responded with something like… Oh sir, so you are using a good quality phone these days (badiya phone). I was like… well yeah, something like that.
It was almost like he accepted the fact that CDMA networks in India most have shitty devices on offer in the market here. And it is pretty accurate.
It’s a shame that we cannot get the Droid series that is being offered by Verizon in the US market as they are pretty decent CDMA based Android devices.
Another funny thing was that he never suggested that I should have taken a Tata DoCoMo connection if I wanted to use GSM… It is almost like Tata DoCoMo and Tata Indicom operates like totally different entities in the market.
By the way, they have been calling me for a while now over the same issue. I am not sure how long it would take them to realize that I am entitled to decide how much I want to use their network…
