In case you did not notice, Delhi Traffic Police is now on Facebook (and Twitter).
And they seem to be doing a decent job of alerting people about potential traffic jams in the city.
And they are also apparently accepting complaints from people who notice others breaking the rules.
A recent post on their Facebook profile states that they prosecuted a vehicle owner based on a complaint filed by a user.
This can only mean one thing… If you are driving on the roads of Delhi.. and you are breaking some traffic law in the absence of any traffic cops around you… you can still get caught by some citizen vigilante.
I can only hope that this system is not misused by people of Delhi to target their foes and enemies. This could get out of hand very easily.
Huh! Just take the case of challans sent at home by post; I've seen people argue that they were just not there at the mentioned time. Mind you, these challans are issued on the recorded observations of traffic cops . So what is the authenticity of these vigilantes?
On the top of it what makes the cops think they can delegate their powers at will like Maharajas? What gives them this power? I'm not into FB and likes. Thanks for pointing. I think I mail send a polite lil' mail to Commissioner Traffic; let's find out more.
