When TRAI announced that 256kbps is to be provided as the minimum guaranteed speed in the name of broadband, they would not have imagined what Airtel Broadband would do with that stipulation.
It took them a while to realize how they can misuse the power given to them by TRAI. But they have eventually taken the steps to ensure their demise as the best ISP in the Indian market.
Ladies and gentlemen. 256Kbps is the new face of Airtel Broadband. They would sell plans with exciting speed claims… 1mbps, 2mbps, 4mbps or even more.
But all of these packages would have rather stupid fair usage policies ranging from 8GB to 25GB.
After you have crossed this limit, you are going to be thrown back to 256kbps. Imagine getting 256kbps after you have paid for a connection that is sold as 1mbps unlimited after a couple of hours of usage.
This is the new Airtel Broadband.
I have another sad news for myself. Airtel has decided to shutdown their Broadband related office located on Galleria. They are now suggesting that I visit their mobile center in the same market. That office is smaller in size and deals with their mobile customers. That means the rush inside is at least 10 times more. That means it is going to be a hassle to pay my bills over the counter from next month. That means I would finally have to switch to online payments with Airtel as well.
