ATM Headache

A quick question. How many of you have faced problems where the ATM machine did not give out any money. You receive a transaction rejected message. But the money was still deducted from your account. And it was not reversed back automatically. So you had to raise the problem with the bank. Which took as long as 5-6 months to fix the glitch. That too even after receiving a complaint from the consumer court?

State Bank of India has done it two times to my dad.

SBI seems to be running a beta account on Twitter. Let’s see if that responds!

I had the same problem with ICICI Bank ATM card using SBI ATM machine but ICICI credited back the amount within 15 days after I raised a ticket on their website.

Piece of advice: even if your dad has an account in SBI, tell him to never use SBI ATMs. They are the worst ATMs I've ever seen. The ATMs that grab your card (keep it inside for the duration of the transaction) are usually the best ones. Axis Bank, HDFC etc have those ATMs. 5 transactions per month are allowed without any extra charge.

Actually the machines which keep the card inside while the transaction is being processed are the worst in my opinion.

In a Canara Bank ATM, the card got stuck inside the machine after my father had completed the transaction and got the money.

The next person could insert his card though and make the transaction.

After filing a complaint, got back the card within 15days with the balance intact.

never faced a problem with a stuck card. though i get pretty scared with the grrr grrr noise made by the machine. today the SBI machine kept on griding something within. i thought maybe it would 'spit' out the cash. it didn't. my only worry is that it might have thrown out the cash after i went away. i actually stayed there looking at the machine for like 2-3 minutes before i took leave. PoS.

I generally avoid using Dad's card for my financial needs. Today was an emergency. I had doubts using the card in the SBI ATM machine. And well i suffered.

I personally use my StanChart ATM Card in Andhra Bank ATM machine. never had a problem.

Made a lazy mistake. Sucks to be me.

With SBI my father had to send 'written' complaints. Send followups. In the end, threaten a case in the consumer courts. Let's see what happens this time around.
