Google has done a pretty decent job with the video upload functionality on YouTube but it still annoys me a lot.
The best thing is that it uses Google Gears (I think!) to allow multiple video uploads in one go.
And you can add more videos to the queue even after you have started the uploading process. This is something Flickr does not allow yet.
This was the good thing…
The bad thing is that the upload process has to be smooth. A small period when the net goes down… Upload aborts. A small period when you upload something else that leaves little bandwidth for YouTube… Upload aborts.
And it would not resume from where it aborted. You would have to re-upload the entire thing.
It becomes a major hassle when you are uploading videos that are 1.2GB big. I upload HD videos because YouTube is apparently the only free service that allows you to.
I wish Google does something about this. Allow a resume feature. The best web based service I have seen in this aspect is DropBox (Referral Link Alert! You get extra space if you make an account through this link. So do I)… Drop a file into the relevant folder and you can be sure that the file would be uploaded properly. It is simply awesome how they have managed to do it.
