So, I saw Three Idiots last night. Aamir Khan continues to remain in a preaching mode. Rang De Basanti talked about how to (or not to!) protest against the mess created by the government. Taare Zameen Par was about how not to treat small kids who are studying in schools. And 3 Idiots is all about how not to handle your child’s future when he enters the college.
In some sense, 3 Idiots is a sequel to Taare Zameen Par. How parents force the kids into picking a career of their choice rather than listening to what they want to do. Unlike Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots is done in a comical way but it has it’s emotional moments.
There are a couple of scenes in the movie which makes it a not so suitable watch for small kids. The child birth sequence was a bit too hard to digest for me.
The movie has some sequences which reminds you of Angus MacGyver. The movie has tons of product placements. Some of the ones I remember includes Air India, Samsung Mobile Phones, Mahindra Flyte, Volvo Cars, Airtel wireless internet and a some more.
Some scenes are practically offensive in nature but you manage to ignore them for the humor factor. Aamir Khan does a bit of overacting but that has become his nature in the recent movies. Overall, he does a great job. R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi did great as well. You would remember the chemistry between these guys from Rang De Basanti. Boman Irani was pretty annoying in his role as the head of the college. His role was pretty similar to the one in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
Kareena Kapoor was pretty subtle in her role. Did a fine job. The smooch in the end was uncalled for. Saif Ali Khan would not be very amused on her kissing guys around in almost all her movies. Javed Jaffrey gets another tiny role and he gets to do very little in the movie. Omi Vaidya as Chatur Ramalingam was the most interesting character in the movie. He did a great job in his role representing the ones who wants to excel in everything. He was pretty much the star of the movie. The part where he reads out his speech is probably the most hilarious part of the movie.
I can definitely say that I enjoyed the movie. It could have been better but that would have been too much to ask.
Want to watch this movie. Didnt like the Munna Bhai hung-over Boman Irani in the ads though. Heard a lot of rave reviews and Aamir Khan movies are anyways worth the wait, I guess.
On a different note, I'm still in AVATAR mode. They say its the "i-phone" of movies and that move making (at least in Hollywood) wont be the same anymore. Remains to be seen if this will rub off in Bollywood movies as well.
