Google Public DNS: I got rid of OpenDNS

Google launched their own DNS service today. They call it Google Public DNS.

It is similar in nature to OpenDNS. You do not get the flexibility however.

Google has stated no plans to add features offered by OpenDNS. They just want to provide a service that runs in the background.

This launch reminded me of the launch of Google Chrome.

Google had no reasons to launch it because Mozilla Firefox was doing a pretty good job of developing a web browser.

Google Chrome was launched however and it forced Mozilla to step-up their game. I loved Chrome for its simplicity as Firefox was becoming way too demanding on the resources on my system.

Google Public DNS does the same for me. I have been using OpenDNS for years now. But I used to get frustrated when I landed on their search engine page on my web browser.

Google does not do that and that alone is a good enough incentive.
