Canonical no longer likes to give free Ubuntu Linux CDs?

Canonical is probably the last sane Linux company that still has the guts to provide free OS CDs with every release.

Apparently, they are joining the rival gang as I got to see this message on Ship It:

Demand for Ubuntu CDs is very high, and we’re trying to ensure that we have enough CDs for those who really need one. We’ve noticed that you’ve already received CDs of several previous Ubuntu releases. You can help us ensure the continued availability of Ubuntu CDs by

upgrading to the new release without a CD

downloading your own CD for free

becoming an Ubuntu member by contributing to Ubuntu, and thereby becoming eligible for more CDs

Thanks for your support of Ubuntu!

I guess they discovered somehow that I can live without my single free CD.

It’s a shame really. They used to send multiple CDs earlier on. Then they moved to a single CD per account. Now, I get none. Not too concerned. But it was always nice to have the official branded Ubuntu CD around.
