Here is an interesting thread from the India Broadband Forum…
Airtel recently launched a couple of new plans which are priced much better compared to their previous plans.
As usual, most of us switched to the new plans as per our liking. But some users are complaining that they were not automatically migrated to the new plans (with similar features).
I am not sure about other companies, but Airtel does not change your plan unless you ask them to. It’s a safe policy for both Airtel and the customers. If I get a plan today, I know I would not pay more for the same plan in the future.
The complaint is that Airtel is cheating customers on older plans by not migrating them to the new plans. The counter argument (from me) is that how would you feel if you are migrated automatically to a new plan which is priced higher compared to the previous plan!
What do you say about this!
I feel that if the plan remains the same (like same up/down speed, same FUP, same call rates) and the price is made BETTER, then users should automatically. This means that a price change (or a name change) should not be considered to be a NEW plan.
If even one thing is different, such as call rates, this makes it a different plan altogether. In that case, the plan should not be touched.
Its very obvious that this conflict of interest would arise. Plan prices may increase or decrease. Users want only reductions and not raises in tariff. The company wants to keep a uniform policy to avoid any confusion or hassles. The policy is both beneficial and harmful in some situations.
The best solution would be to continue this policy, but keep customers informed of new plan through pamphlets in bills etc, which they already do. So I'm happy with it.
