I have been pretty frustrated with the concept of government owned bodies competing with private entities.
It happens in almost all the major markets. Some of the instances no longer exists thankfully (Maruti Suzuki).
Oil companies are one major sector. Indian government owns practically all the major companies which operate petrol pumps.
They decide the price of the fuel. They decide the subsidies they would give to the oil companies. As a result, no private player can really compete in the market.
Air India is another example. It is struggling and now public money would be used to fix its operations. The money comes from our pockets. But we get not benefits for using it over private players.
In fact, the private players pay taxes which could be used to fix one of their bigger rivals!
I am not really sure if this is how it should be in the perfect world!
