Dell, Samsung and Pain

Dell DVD RW drive fails again.

Dell guy takes 27 minutes to take down my request.

Dell DVD RW FAIL

Hopefully, they would resolve my problem.

My desktop’s DVD RW fails as well.

It’s a Samsung model.

Dealer tells me Samsung is giving too many problems with replacements. Can take as many as 2-3 months.

SAMSUNG FAIL.

Probably would buy a new DVD RW drive. Probably Sony. As long as it works and warranty is honored.

Technology in Sushubh’s Life? FAIL.

Samsung was famous for bad optical drives at around 2005 or so. I always avoided buying a Samsung optical drive. It seems the situation hasn't improved. Samsung is bad for computer products, but their consumer electronics products and computer components (like RAM, etc.) have been good, as far as I know. Wait, Samsung mobile phones suck too. Samsung hard drive support site has the least information among the major desktop hard drive manufacturers (Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, and Samsung). Hitachi and Seagate are quite good at technical documentation which is available to the general public.

External DVD RWs are a bigger PITA than the internal ones. Do not go for an external DVD RW.

Any ideas for an external DVD-RW? The one I have has conked off :( I stick on to USB drives for all practical purposes.

For my desktop, I have been using a Sony DVD RW since the past 3 and a 1/2 years with almost zero problems. Just recently it developed a small problem with the opening and closing of tray but was easily fixed by replacing the rubber thingy inside. Lens etc have been working awesomely.

yeap my dealer also asked me to go for Sony this time around. OMG i am going to buy a SONY product. blah. my first in a long time after the PS2...
