Some progress on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway

Finally, the management has started issuing challans to two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors and trolleys for entering the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

I am not sure if they are going to continue this drive. They should… It is profitable enough for them to challan all the offending vehicles entering the highway!

They can use the money to make sure no lane is shut down at the Toll Plaza due to any kind of malfunction. Almost every time I go through the Toll Plaza, 2-3 lanes are blocked for some reason or the other.

By the way, now that I own a bike, I find no reasons to venture on the highway personally. Scares the hell out of me. I had rather stay out of the highway driving on roads which have fewer cars and trucks.

Dear Mr. Sushubh

I think u r a rich man/women, who having car. It is good. But huge number of middle class people are coming from Delhi to Gurgaon for doing jobs by using bike and the service road u mentioned is not enough to commute, as every place you can see trafic jam in service road and no trafic control by your highway guard or police. You know by taking service road 2 wheelers taking more than one hour from Delhi Border to Gurgaon.

You said 2/3 wheelers are making nuisance in highway, this word can use only by a heartless people only. This 2/3 wheelers are middle or poor people's vehicle.

Also like to let you know that we 2 wheelers are ready to use serivce, but can u answer why these can/other 4 wheelers using same service line instead of highway.

As far as accident, you know most accidents are happening by car/call centre vehicles. why can't stop them too from highway to avoide accidents. Shortly close highway you will not see any accident.

SHORTLY A HIGHWAY FOR RICHERS / NO USE FOR MIDDLE / POOR PEOPLE. WISH YOU A HAPPY HIGHWAY..........

I happen to be a newly bike owner and I still believe bikes have no place on the expressway.

Expressway are for fast vehicles and bike riders are just a nuisance on the expressway.

They drive fast on the highway and from my own experience on the middle of the roads.

And most of the people that die in accidents on the expressway are the bikers only.

Poor people vehicle happens to be public transport. Buses are allowed on the expressway. Travel in them if you want to travel on the highways.

The expressway was established for fast vehicles that means cars and trucks and buses. That is the reason why THEY are required to pay the fee at the toll plaza. Bikers are not supposed to travel on the highway so they are not required to pay for the travel on the highway.

Bikers drive like mad people on the highway and they are the main cause of most accidents that happen on the highway. That's why I still say they have no place on the delhi gurgaon expressway.

Personally if i am to go to delhi on my bike, i would stay away from the expressway because i care for my life and i had rather suffer a minor delay then become a victim of some road accident.

Dear friend: Instead of those big, expensive, empty malls why not investing in roads, good schools, transportation, sanitation, education first? It is impossible to build a millenium city when so many important issues were forgotten and they did not pay any attention to infraestructure problems. They forgot security as well! Regarding the dogs we see all over, it's about time to rescue and give them shelter.

Do not talk about tourism, no one wants to visit cities if they have to spend hours on a highway, no safe transportation, garbage all over or walking in places where they can be robbed in those dark, muddy streets. A nightmare for those who have to work each day, look from a window and what you see? Do they use pictures on real estate ads showing the real situation?

Flooding everywhere when it rains, power shortages driving us crazy and then what to do? Now why so many empty mall stores, unsold apartments around Gurgaon, terrible traffic jams all over, lost jobs, shortage of water, what realtors and investors like us are going to do? Sit and cry after losing so much money? We hope the situation gets better soon or we're leaving. Sorry.

roads are not made by private companies unless they are given the contract by the government.

and when that happens, we end up having roads that have toll taxes.

delhi gurgaon expressway is a bad example. it took years to complete. and when it was completed, the life of the traveler is still a hell.

I'm sorry if I sound annoying, but I still don't get why two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors and trolleys are not allowed on the expressway along with other four wheelers. Why are they forced to go through service lanes?

the entire idea of having expressway is to create a smooth way for faster vehicles to go through.

that is why cars and bigger vehicles are allowed on it. and they are the ones who are charged to travel on it.

2/3 wheelers create nuisance for these fast moving traffic so they are told to travel through the service lanes.

expressway also connect bigger cities and 2/3 wheelers are not specifically designed for intercity travel.

that is what common sense suggest. it's not an internal road of a city. its a high speed highway for fast moving vehicles.

So don't the cars slip into the service roads to avoid toll tax?

mmm. there is a single road that goes through the toll plaza. even the bikers have to go through the toll plaza though they are not required to pay a paisa.

there are two alternative routes to go to delhi without going through the toll plaza...

one is the mehrauli-gurgaon road which goes to aiims.

the other one is parallel to the highway and goes through kapashera.

the problem is that road goes through a village and is a mess due to trucks and other vehicles that use that way to probably avoid paying the toll fee.

you end up on the connecting road to dwarka.

this route makes sense if you are going to delhi from the inside the older gurgaon region.

i live on the other side of the highway, and it makes little sense for me to take that path :)

if you are coming from delhi to gurgaon, they have made it pretty complicated for you to use the parallel road. you have to take a u-turn and travel a long distance to get on that road.

dsc limited probably paid a lot to ensure that people use the highway instead of the alternative routes.

Another thing - how are the guys you mentioned - two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors and trolleys - how are they supposed to go if they are being issued challans for entering the expressway?

they are not allowed to enter the expressway where there are service roads alongside the highway.

throughout gurgaon region, there are lanes on both side of the expressway.

there are some areas on the way to delhi where there is no bridge and the two roads are merged. the rule is of course not applicable on that area :)

What's the situation with the 'Tag-only' lanes? Are cash payers still entering the lane without any consequences.

i do not go to delhi much nowadays (got married :| ).

but yea, every time i go through the toll plaza during rush hours, i always find some or the other vehicle paying cash on the tag lane.

and i also end up noticing a bus or a truck in these lanes...
