Solid State Drives in India

I was doing a quick research on the prices of solid state drives in the Indian market. No I do not plan to buy one. A 32GB pen drive seems to be a better purchase any given day.

Anyways here is what I found out in 5 minutes. Tada.

Independent Purchase

Transcend has launched a 192GB  solid state drive in the Indian market. Price? Rs. 37000 + taxes.

Sounds pretty expensive.

Now let’s check Apple and Dell…

Apple MacBook Air

Apple MacBook Air 1.6 GHz model in India with a 120GB HDD is around 98000 + taxes.

Apple MacBook Air 1.86 GHz model in India with a 128GB SSD is around 136000 + taxes.

So, Apple is charging around 38000 rupees for replacing 120GB HDD with a 128GB SSD in addition to a slight increase in processor speed.

Dell XPS

Dell has a simple upgrade option on their XPS laptop. User can order it with a 64GB Solid State Hard Drive for around 49882 rupees (+ taxes) extra.

I have one word to say here. WTF.

I am thinking of buying an apple macbook pro and compliment it with a solid state external drive. But the prices of the drives are obscene!
