Happy Independence Day!?

So, India is like 60 years old today. A moment of joy? I do not think so.

We are basically a disaster. We have more than 1 billion people and we have just one gold medal to show in the ongoing Olympics.

The only sport that matters to Indians is Cricket and we have just lost the test series to Sri Lanka.

The capital city today is totally opposite to what independence should mean for the people of India…

The tight security at the borders meant that it took people several hours to cover the distance that should be otherwise covered in 30-90 minutes.

All the major roads would be blocked tomorrow to make it easier for the politicians to travel to Red Fort.

This is the democracy we live in today. You can get arrested for speaking against the top leaders of India on an open forum on the internet.

The country is not safe for women after so many years of independence. Delhi NCR itself is totally unsafe for the female kind.

Millions of kids do not get even the barest of education as they struggle to get enough nutrition to keep them alive.

The infrastructure is sham. Roads? Here in Gurgaon, forget the roads in sectors, even the major roads are in terrible condition.

Our represented politicians are more interested in getting bribed for voting on key issues. They do not mind using abusive words in the Parliament. They even go on to call our otherwise very nice man Dr. Manmohan Singh Nikamma.

I do not see any hope for us in the coming years. Maybe India would surprise me after all.

Recognizing the problem is the first step, which new generation is doing on blogs, news, n open forums
We cannot bring a sea change in few years or even a decade if we do not change our mentality n approach to problem solving
'Peer pressure' is wot coming to my mind to solve multiple problems that India is facing.
For example: Traffic. I have seen traffic in Boston, NY, London, Milan, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, ..n many more cities

The best traffic condition I have seen is in Boston. The worst Hyderabad n Delhi.

I will compare traffic in 2 cities n may be draw some conclusions to improve traffic n some conclusion about mentality of Indians.

Boston City
traffic Observation
-rare to see a traffic police guy on the road
-Ppl follow rule even at 1am
-No honking
-no overtaking generally (exceptions are always ther)

My reasoning behind it:
- believe in no shortcuts
- value others time n life
- peer pressure to follow the rules
- good rules n regulations to keep the system working

Hyderabad n Delhi:
traffic observation
- Traffic police on every corner of the road who does not do much
- honking even when it is not needed..sometimes just for fun..just to irritate someone
- shortcuts shortcuts n shortcuts but we want other ppl to follow rules
- good rules n regulations exist but we dont give it a damn.

My reasoning behind it
- In india nobody cares about others time n life on indian roads.
- Nobody follow lane system. Ppl in Mercedes would stop on red light on right lane and on Green would go left! Ppl never learned the rules as in India we get license to drive without learning the basics.
- rules are to keep things running smooth not to make life miserable..but ppl dont understand it. They feel that it is the duty of Traffic police to reinforce the loop. They also feel that if they break the rule it is not going to hurt much

My suggestion
In India we see a lot of peer pressure to maintain dignity n standard. it coud be new cell phone in hand or car or house or education of child etc..u name it!! I believe this peer pressure can be used for good of this country as well.
I wish if news channel talk less about bollywood or politicians or which channel is airing wot or aliens BUT start teaching our country basic lessons !! ( I am very sure their viewership would increase...as long as they keep it professional n quality up to the mark)

Lessons should be on
1. peer pressure n its system dynamics
2. Driving sense using examples from cities such as Boston
3. some humor n some responsibility
4. request to pass on the lessons learned to their friends n family

I seriously wish if a city such as Delhi could follow a good traffic sense without shortcuts n without honking n care about others time n life.

I will be going back to Boston in September first week. I am thinking to record good driving sense and put it on youtube. Let see if I can contribute more on this front..

Since when was there good education in India? Almost all schools don't care about imparting real education to the student, they just care that he/she should get good enough marks in the board examinations.

After school, only IITs and NITs are good for undergrad science/engineering, and the mindset the school system gives to most students make them go there mostly to get good jobs in the end, not to get really educated. The people and faculty in many colleges know this and show tricks to students on how to score well in the college exams without studying much.

The system of education in India is one of the most corrupt systems in the world.
