With firefox, if you open a website in any new tab, it will add the size to the private memory, but after closing the tab,it won’t clean that memory :). More than 1GB of memory occupied by firefox, boy you are doing a hell lot of browsing/work.
You must have a lots of tabs open or your firefox session is open for a long long time :). I never reached 500MB even having the session open for couple days and with visiting multiple sites

at any given moment, i would have more tabs open in opera compared to firefox.
firefox memory leak exists in version 3 too i guess.
beta software. what can you say.
