Damage from the fire
Still cannot pinpoint a rough figure. The LCD works but is definitely damaged. I don’t think my warranty on this panel cover accidents. I would check out with Dell if they would be able to fix it up. Would have to buy a desktop as a backup machine. Airtel is yet to connect me up.
One suggestion for everyone… Keep backups at a safe place and insure your stuff!
Update: Had a word with Dell Customer Support. The warranty of course did not apply in this case. And they do not offer any kind of repairs on the TFTs. So, I guess I would have to find a way to discard this otherwise perfect monitor and get a new one

one of the extension cords had a plug totally melted… i am assuming it caused the fire.
curtains and lots of papers lying around (bills and statements) would have helped it i guess.

what was damaged in the fire? As for insurance, ask your father if the house had homeowners insurance.. if you bough the lcd with a credit card(eg american express), they provide insurance by default.

check the last link on that page. not sure what kind of card you have so you need to read your cardmember’s agreement(the booklet you got when you received the card)
