Maggi screws the spirit of Popeye
Popeye I believe is the only comic strip which actually preaches (at least try to!) some good eating habits to kids. He loves spinach and in fact no one can be a better brand ambassador for a spinach product company. All his comics have the spinach featured in some form or the other (paste, raw, inside a burger or what not!) and he also recommends it to his nephews (the three little cuties).
But what the hell, Maggi has Popeye in their advertisements and in the free jigsaw puzzles (that comes with Maggi in India) eating Maggi in place of spinach! This sucks… To promote their own crappy products they are maligning the good ol’ Popeye and his beloved spinach!

Well, that’s one way of looking at it i guess. In my opinion, Popeye stands for the victory of the underdog.
And Maggi in India atleast, is the great equalizer. Though the frequency of consumption varies, both the rich kids and the middle class kids can enjoy Maggi and feel good about being a child.
With the 5/- pack, more middle class kids can eat a plate of Maggi, feel full and feel happy. Can one say the same about the other snacks that are oily, salty and also promote indiscriminate binging?
Come to think of it, if Maggi had to use Popeye maybe they should’ve launched a spinach variant of Maggi! Or maybe they should’ve just given a pack of some crackling greens to be added as garnish on the Maggi.
