I really don’t know if Brain was selfish or not. Its a given that he has performed well for WI. But 400 at the expense of a draw when you could have pushed for a win. I don’t agree with the previous comment which tries to justify this in light of the fact that this was the last test and WI were 2-0. Cricket is team game! Personal milestones don’t mean much if they don’t change the result of the match.

dude… u are wrong… please post stuff if have any knowledge of Statistics of the game. Brian Lara has won cricket matches for WI probably more that any other Batsmen. Be it Aus, SAF, SRI, IND, Eng… if u want ill send u a detailed summary for that. About the 400… it was the last match of the series and they were 2-0 or so down. Now what would you do sitting on 350 plus… Declare and see “maybe” if u have chance of winning the test match and going down 2-1. Or grabbing the situation to get 400… (they still had a chance but the Bowlers could not effect a result) which one does not get every test match. U cannot call it Selfishness in such a situation.

we can definitely call it his misfortune to have a pathetic team which failed to support him. but he himself has been a disappointment to the team when they needed him the most. i personally cannot remember him winning a match for WI in the recent times. i may be wrong. but he surely is not charismatic enough to get me to watch a match featuring WI.

I don’t quite agree. West Indies could’ve easily used Lara as a run machine & taken 20 wickets test match after test match.. Trouble with windies cricket is their lack of hunger to win cricket matches. Lara was hungry for runs - so he got them. West Indies cricket was not smart enough to use that man’s brilliance with a bat in hand.
