My only online shopping experience from an Indian store has been Rediff after they forcibly sent me an add-on card which was linked with my regular ICICI Card.
I order a pair of shorts which were excessively expensive. I was supposed to get a free Audio CD which I never got. I never blogged about it. Sadly.
Not a big deal. But, it looks like most people still have issues with shopping sites in India. Like Ashok who had bad experience dealing with Indiatimes. Now one of my other friends has had good experience dealing with Indiatimes with cheap airline tickets.

A couple of years back, Indiatimes goofed up to have an ACI laptop for 4k in their stores. The evil bozo that I am, ordered it and made payment through ICICI. Only to find the order confirmed, shipping status up and 2 fine days later a call from their Gurgaon office saying – We are sorry, there has been some mis-understanding. They canceled the order without letting me know whether they will send the money back. Thanks to them, I was refunded the amount after 2 long months.
you could/should have taken them to consumer courts.
I threatened, does that qualify? Their disclaimers and fine prints clearly proved that they hold the last rights to discontinue the order at any stage.
heh. the courts have in the past claimed that clicking the OK/Accept button on these pages does not amount to a legal agreement.
but yeah, they are suckers no less.
Major problem with sites like ebay, Indiatimes and rediff is the quality of product, most of the products sold on these sites esp electronic gadgets are either refurbished or imported without any warranty and as vendor’s identity is not disclosed, you can hardly do anything if you face any problem with the product, I had ordered a pink iPod for my gf for valentines from indiatimes and recd white iPod instead that too after 12 days.. well aftr valentines day. We definitely need more genuine sites selling genuine products to increase ecommerce transactions in India
I faced problem with eBay. they send me damaged product. i send back and again they send me the same product after that i again send back but after that i didn’t get the product. i called so many times to seller but didn’t get reply….
I am a research scholar working on Quality of Indian e-commerce wen-sites i.e. Online shopping malls. The above mentioned problems prove the genesis for my work.
I had a bad experience where in the amount was debited from my account but the vendor is denying the transaction. The bank could not do anything as they confirm the transaction id and that the amount has been credited to the “so called” secure account of the biller through (paypal/verisign etc..). I had provided the vendor with the transaction id and in spite of follow up for weeks together, could not receive neither the product nor refund of money.. Thank God it was a small amount..
Priyanka…I need some information based on your work. I’m an entrepreneur. Please mail me at j_mv2@yahoo.com
Thanks
I ordered some gift for my sister’s birthday and for my mother and paid them with my international bank card which is about 2 years back and they are still waiting for the gifts to come. I have not got any reply from them. Its sad but, as usual you burn your finger once….
thanks any way
Hi,
I am Quality Manager.. I have prepared the below mentioned material which I want to sale on the web. I do not know how to proceed & fix the prices. My targeted zones would be US & UK.
Can you help me which sites to opt for & what is the requirement in short how to proceed etc?
The ppts avalible on:
1) Six Sigma Green belt “DMAIC” methodology.
2) ISO implementation Procedure
3) ppt on how to present operational reveiw
I had a peculiar experience; eBay (then Bazee) advertised goods; I shopped on COD; got goods against cash; vendor maintained they did not receive cash; I was down-valued by eBay
Does anyone has a similar experience?
BTW, The bag was garbaged soon.
I have a very nasty experience with this site. I paid for a couple of shoes, fortunately of a low end price, simply to see if this site can deliver the goods they boast of offering to gullible customers like me. Anyway, in spite of almost 9 months now since I paid for those shoes, I am yet to recieve them or even elicit a reply from their helpline number. Guess what, the helpline number has even been discontinued. They even had an online chat facility which was conveniently taken off the charts. I sent them a number of mails, asking for a response on my order status, and I got zilch. Now, I am poorer by about 1200 bucks, but they are richer by that amount. So, folks, beware of this site. You might just end up in the dustbin of Indian Internet enterprise, offering to sell you fancy looking shoes.
Dont tell me I did not warn you!
Take care!
I do shop online a couple of times. The system in India is dishonest in every single genre.
A couple of months ago, I had made a purchase from the U.S. The stuff arrived on time to our Indian post office. The post office guy here refused to give me my package because I had paid him Rs.500/- for Diwali. Can you believe that? The audacity out here is outrageous! He wanted me to pay him more, and I said that I had paid him enough. So, he refused to give me my package. Who am I to complain to? Every level out here is as bad as the next.
No wonder our Indians choose to go and work abroad where they can get their minimum rights. India is supposed to be a ‘Democracy’. Yeah….a cheating…..dishonest….crappy Democracy.

My experience has been satisfactory. I bought Nikon 7mp digital camera for only 4k about a year ago from ebay; washing machine from homeshop18 six months ago. Both products excellent. No complaints whatsoever. Am planing to buy a fridge online. My experience has been good
A month back, i had made online purchase but online shopping company failed to deliver my item and till date they have not paid/transfered my money. Is there any law or place where we can register complaint against such unprofessional online shopping sites? Site’s name is Indiaplaza.com. Avoid dealing with them. Horrible customer service/support.
