India in the World Cup 2007
This is going to be a pretty idiotic post. No doubt. India still has a chance to go into the second round. It all depends upon how they manage to defeat Sri Lanka in their last league match.
But, I have this stupid feeling that if India indeed by some magic manages to beat Sri Lanka by a good enough margin to get into the second round… there is a high possibility that the first match they lost against Bangladesh was fixed.
Think of this simple situation.
India loses to Bangladesh. Betting market makes huge money. Some of this money is diverted to the people who had control over the result of the match (the players and the team management). However, they are ensured by the betting people that they would still get to enter the second round as the other matches are fixed as well.
India manages to defeat Sri Lanka which is also somewhat guaranteed to move into the second round. People would forget the loss to Bangladesh as nothing is lost in the end. India would still get the 2 bonus point as they had beaten Sri Lanka who along with India goes to the second round.
Everyone benefits in this scenario. The players, the team, the betting people. It’s a win win situation for all!
Now, I am not really saying that the matches in the World Cup are indeed fixed. I am just talking about a possibility. A possibility that the game of cricket is all controlled by a big organization which is destined to make as much money as possible from this World Cup.
Or, it could just be a stupid feeling. I would be relieved if common sense prevails and Sri Lanka defeats India in their match to move into the second round hopefully with Bangladesh.
Though, I am pretty sure that India would move into the second round. ![]()
