India in the World Cup 2007

This is going to be a pretty idiotic post. No doubt. India still has a chance to go into the second round. It all depends upon how they manage to defeat Sri Lanka in their last league match.

But, I have this stupid feeling that if India indeed by some magic manages to beat Sri Lanka by a good enough margin to get into the second round… there is a high possibility that the first match they lost against Bangladesh was fixed.

Think of this simple situation.

India loses to Bangladesh. Betting market makes huge money. Some of this money is diverted to the people who had control over the result of the match (the players and the team management). However, they are ensured by the betting people that they would still get to enter the second round as the other matches are fixed as well.

India manages to defeat Sri Lanka which is also somewhat guaranteed to move into the second round. People would forget the loss to Bangladesh as nothing is lost in the end. India would still get the 2 bonus point as they had beaten Sri Lanka who along with India goes to the second round.

Everyone benefits in this scenario. The players, the team, the betting people. It’s a win win situation for all!

Now, I am not really saying that the matches in the World Cup are indeed fixed. I am just talking about a possibility. A possibility that the game of cricket is all controlled by a big organization which is destined to make as much money as possible from this World Cup.

Or, it could just be a stupid feeling. I would be relieved if common sense prevails and Sri Lanka defeats India in their match to move into the second round hopefully with Bangladesh.

Though, I am pretty sure that India would move into the second round. ;)

With potential for hundreds of millions of dollars...billions of dollars even...I would be surprised if there isn't any match-fixing taking place. With so much confidence in match-fixing abilities of whoever-it-is-that-do-that-for-whatever-there-is-to-gain, I am betting…er, guessing…that India will make it to the next round. Why did Bermuda, knowing full well India needs a huge total, elect to field after winning the toss against India? Was it because Bermuda has a long history of successfully chasing targets set by opponents? I think not.

Well Bermuda elected to field first cause of the condition there. It was so overcast at the time of the toss, that if they had elected to bat first, then even the miserable Indian bowling could have got them out for pretty much less than what they achieved batting second. Moreover, even if India had won the toss, they would have fielded first, coz to up the runrate, posting a huge score is not the only way. U cud have bundled out Bermuda for around 80 and got it in 8 overs. that wud have increased India NRR much higher than the present one

Having said this, Indian bowling attack is pathetic.
