A personal message I sent to a dude on the India Broadband Forum who kind of boasted of running ad-blockers on the free services on the web…
Here is the thing. You never offended me. The straight fact is I am currently paying from my pocket to run the forum. It earns me practically nothing.
I don’t mind this. I don’t mind people blocking ads. But I certainly have problems with people who BOAST about blocking ads on the forum.
It would take me less than 5 minutes to shut down this forum forever. I run it because I think it helps people. When you feel proud of blocking ads on the site which you accept helps you… I am sad to say, you are not being fair to me, to the forum and to the other members on the forum.
Feel free to continue surfing the forum with ads blocked. Just don’t claim that you have got the right to surf the websites on the internet totally advertisement free… coz that proves you are a nutcase. Just think about the situation when Google starts charging you for making searches on their website just because all the web users start blocking Google ads on all the sites on the net. It would kill them; it would kill a lot of free services. And in the end, it would kill the free internet.
The fact remains, majority of stuff on the net is free because of advertisements. You don’t pay to use third party resources. Just don’t feel proud of blocking any chances for them to recover the costs of offering the services.
