ICICI Direct Newsletter
Just received a newsletter from the company. The web designer seems to have affection for BMP files as the image in the mail was a bitmap rather than a JPEG or GIF.

unfortunately, many so-called IT Professionals use crappy software, of which many of them are made by The Evil.
Microsoft Paint is different from other software of Microsoft because it wasn’t really developed by Microsoft. It purchased some company (can’t remember the name) and the ownership of “Paint” got transferred to Microsoft.

umm. wake up dude.
most popular softwares made by microsoft were never made by them.
Internet Explorer is one.
Windows Defender is another.
DOS of course is the first software they bought and rebranded.
Excel is one of the few genuine products from Microsoft which really has little competition in the market.
The funny thing is that they have nothing in the market to take on Adobe and their Photoshop range of products. They are trying hard. Even coming out with their own imaging formats. it’s tough for them now that the market is totally owned by Adobe for image manipulation at least for the PC platform.
and it is simply pathetic that ICICI bank guys can manage bank accounts with crores of rupees but they forget to follow the simple rules of web designing.

However, the most popular software has code developed by Microsoft
. But most of the ideas are “stolen” from other operating systems. Oh, and Vista is just Mac OS X Tiger made more crappier, and with the legacy of Windows.
Excel and Word have never really faced competition because many people don’t know about the alternatives. And many who do know about the alternatives have switched to it; governments are a great example.
The real problem with competition to Microsoft’s products is they crush competition. They just don’t let the competition live. They buy companies and throw away their code, just to kill competition. They are The Evil in software companies.
The Imaging and video market is mostly macs. Most of Hollywood use macs. Even some parts of Bollywood use macs. Windows has little chance there. Unless they kill Apple. Which they can’t.

everyone steal ideas. apple stole the gui and the mouse from the parc lab.
implementing it and commercializing it is important. vista might borrow some features from OS X but it definitely is not a clone. both have a different prospective.
word has enough competition i agree but even the experts would agree that excel is capable of doing stuff for number crunchers which none of the rival application can do. analysts actually say that excel is perhaps THE most innovative and functional MS product ever.
people can definitely move on to alternatives but people utilize excel to its best would stay with excel.
as for crushing competition, microsoft is past that stage. they cant crush google. they are unlikely to crush the iPod. Xbox is an exception but then Sony itself is helping them a lot!
of course Apple is now standing on its feet and is unlikely to be crushed by microsoft now.
