Guru: Not as good as it could have been
So I saw guru yesterday. The movie was good in parts. It could have been brilliant overall. But, it surely is not. Abhishek just does not have the personality to carry a movie like this on his own. He tries hard to do a Vijay of Agnipath but he fails big time.
The movie has him being funny initially. Actually, I think he is not supposed to make us laugh but we were laughing like nuts initially. The later parts were absolutely sad. The ending speech he gives in front of the enquiry commission could have been awesome but sadly it was pretty disgusting.
Overall, it was a confusing. Stories began without any substance and they ended in a whimper. Mani Ratnam just failed to make a movie that could have been as good as Bombay was.

There was a lot of Dhirubhai referencing, but i think it never really lead anywhere. Not much of a movie, really.

Expectations run high when you have Maniratnam directing Abhishek and Aishwarya… So here’s my quick take on Guru…
What works…
Chemistry between Aishwarya and Abhishek
A different story line, hallmark of all Mani’s films
What doesn’t work…
Out of place songs… Music has scope
Harried (and to an extent convenient) ending… What happens to Madhavan, Mithun - their drive?

yes I too agree that it was a very hapazard begin and end! The movie takes off pretty decently.. but then post-break seems to be awful! The speech in the court is miserable! The judge who was so damn firm, gets totally floored with what Abhishek mutter in those 5 mins! It looked like those dramas where the actors have no talent, yet try to act in the shows! Overall, my rating is 4/10 !
