Planning to leave HostNine next month

Apparently, their managed dedicated server worth zillions of dollars (umm not exactly true…) is not able to handle two moderate traffic sites just because some bots/spammers are mindlessly hitting the website with crappy requests leading to massive downtime.

Time to get unmanaged hosting with better specs.

Update

As you can see from the comment below, HostNine thought that I am being unfair with them through this post. So I am clarifying here.

HostNine has been a good host for me. However, their managed dedicated solutions are not fitting my budgets and I can find a much better server product and get third party management in similar costs. And that’s what I am going to do in the near future.

I currently have a Celeron machine with them which is apparently not good enough to run 2 of my decent traffic sites due to continues DDoS type of attacks. They have shown a lot of patience with my requests to reboot the server. And I don’t have anything bad to say about them. And their comment is stated below without any kind of moderation.

I can only hope that a better specification server can handle my two sites.

    Hi,

We’re very sorry to hear that you’re departing HostNine as the issue is your server is an Intel Celeron server with 512MB of RAM. Your sites are very active sites and cause the load on your server to spike to 200+

As you can see we truely care about customer satisfaction and the performance of your websites which is why we recommend either RAM upgrades or a server upgrade to something more suitable for your needs. The upgrade would be for strictly cost as we’re not looking to make a bigger profit off of your server upgrade. We’re simply trying to keep you as a satisfied customer with HostNine as in the end that is what is most important.

If you need any assistance at all please feel free to contact us at anytime. We wish you the best of luck.

I am not blaming you. Your server solutions are just not flexible enough for me right now. and my server had 1 gig RAM. :)

    Sushubh,

I can certainly understand your dilemma. However, you really can’t blame hostnine, they’re a solid company that I’m personally familiar with.

It sounds like your wordpress blog is just getting inundated with blog comment spam. Please check out akismet, a free service you can use that moderates your blog spam. I’m using it on my own blog and it catches several hundred messages each day and my own blog runs on a shared server so I’m certain you have far more resources for your site than mine has available to it.

To be honest though, a celeron is under powered for an active site. You should consider a CPU upgrade before a ditch and dash.
