Umrao Jaan

I have personally never liked J.P. Dutta and his style of direction. He seems like an arrogant fellow to me who had massive success with Border and now does not care what the audience really wants to see in a movie.

So, he decided to make a movie his dad once wanted to make. The movie is based on the Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada though most people would say that it is a remake of the original Umrao Jaan.

I do not exactly remember the story of the original movie but reading the Wikipedia makes me realize that the two movies have some differences in their screenplay.

Does not matter to me. The newer version is disappointing. Ash looks like a synthetic version of what she was supposed to be. Somewhere during the movie, I actually wished that the theatre guys would just simply run the older version to keep some sanity in the hall.

People were actually laughing at the scenes featuring both Ash and Abhishek Bachchan. Does not really surprise me considering they are oh-so-artificial. There is no chemistry. I actually managed to narrate my own satirical dialogues during those scenes which helped me survive the crap I was watching at that time.

I tried sleeping through it but in the end the movie was so disappointing that it did not even let me sleep. There were just too many songs.
