Zee Dish TV vs. Tata Sky DTH
From the experience of the people on the net, I believe Tata Sky is much better off the two. Here is the experience of someone using Dish TV…
I’ve finally switched off my dish tv stb forever and subscribed to Tata sky. I was using dish tv for about 11 months now and since last 4 months had a terrible time complaining and pleading their customer service about the faulty firmware problem on the stb due to which it use to hang and crash every time I use to browse the EPG. Since last month after upgrading to the Sony channels, I had a typical problem, only the one alliance frequency quality used to drop for a sec in every 30 secs giving me random freezes. So as usual their customer service did not own to even this problem and I was really hurt so much that I canceled my subscription 45 days earlier to its expiring date. I feel happy the way Tata sky has handled its services till date, so I feel I should have taken the decision much earlier.
So guys, switch over and have peace of mind.

ya dude you are correct…i have been using dish tv since august 2005…then it had few channels…subsequently other channels were added…but it used to hang whenever channels were changed at fast pace…it had to be restarted everytime…sometimes there was link failure…i dont know about tata sky but dish tv sure has poor quality of service…

i got my DishTV STB firmware updated yday. The UI look is good. The picture got crisper. Though there are pro’s, there are cons too. The old softwrae was made with correspond to the remote. Now this new software disables some good features in the remote viz. Pausing the Picture, Zoom, etc. The lower part of the remote now became unneccesary. Five buttons are dead.
All can be done by entering the Main Menu. Bettter to say Linux became Windows (analogically). All shortcuts on the remote have vanished and use the software to get ur job done. Time consuming.

My own experience with TataSky is that they will fleece you if the cable between the Dish Antenna and the Digicomp box is broken. They have charged me Rs 300 for a cut in the cable, found 10 floors above my flat.

Tata sky people refused insatallation at my residence because i stay on the 12th floor and they are not allowed to do the installation on higher floors. when asked why i was not asked on which floor i stay on when your dealer sold me hardware and subscription worth Rs. 4,500/- i was given some really pathetic replies;
Technician who came to install told me he has not sold me the same.

i’ve got 3 of theses insstalled at my home so let me tell ya that Tata Sky Rocks, it has excellent picture quality, superb audio quality, channels change fast and quick, have all the variety of channels a person requires, Active Features are good and easy to use, installation done quickly and very professionaly, faced no problem to date its been 10 days since installation.
But remember audio is good if the respective feed is good, simlarly video is good if the feed is good, but the video quality of some regional channels (i don’t watch) is somewhat poor (Who cares till STAR Movies, HBO rock).
All in all a good buy paticularly if you are in CAS notified areas of Delhi.
So go ahead and give your wallet a breather, let it shed its weight.
Hope you have a good experience too, now that you have six months of free subscription too on offer.

Dish TV totally rocks!!! You get a no. of channels that Tata Sky doesnt offer. Their customer service has improved a great deal. I have had a connection for nearly 2 years now… and I havent faced a problem.

dish tv is onw of the bad service provider company in this field.every coustomer is suffered to company service in the coustomer of himanchal pardesh.hare there is no any service station,there is no any company executive to handle the coustomer problam..and if there is the question of tata sky its new company,so cant commets about that recently.

Dear Sahil - It is true - the price is a bit high - but, there are a lot of duties to be paid by us , who do this legally.I am not earning much commission =only 80 dhs.The rest to be paid to Dish TV , its agents and also customs.I think my offer is the best in the country.Ask anyone and they will tell you .

I,m in saudi arabia (’Abha’ Southern Region), since long time iam not able to install
“dishtv of india” which is on (NSS 6 95°E), i used KU Band .3 db DANSAT LNB,2.4 Meter Dish,
2 STB (Dishtv STB,HUMAX STB) but no use always i get status 0% signal strength, where as
ASIASAT 3S (105.5°E) (SAHARA CHANNEL) workS fine with same dish, humax stb and C band LNB,,,
I changed even lnb and tried but no use, i wonder (Conax,Mediaguard) Video Encryption needs
special dish or what….
Please,, Please help me out because i lost till date three month, i have only three months
more on my smart card,,

I,m in saudi arabia (’Abha’ Southern Region), since long time iam not able to install
“dishtv of india” which is on (NSS 6 95°E), i used KU Band .3 db DANSAT LNB,2.4 Meter Dish,
2 STB (Dishtv STB,HUMAX STB) but no use always i get status 0% signal strength, where as
ASIASAT 3S (105.5°E) (SAHARA CHANNEL) workS fine with same dish, humax stb and C band LNB,,,
I changed even lnb and tried but no use, i wonder (Conax,Mediaguard) Video Encryption needs
special dish or what….
Please,, Please help me out because i lost till date three month, i have only three months
more on my smart card,,

Dish Tv must be one of the only consumer company that forces its users to contact their dealer to rectify problems rather than providing support themselves. This is a good way of fleecing customers as dealers who help Dish TV sell their product can remain in business by charging fees to attend complaints that are normally addressed free of cost by cable walas. Who knows, Dish TV is hand in glove with dealers; first disrupt transmission, then send dealers to rectify the defect against payment.
Stay away from dish TV if you want peace of mind. Stick to friendly neighbourhood cable wala. I am ruing the day I decided to get Dish TV installed. Imagine, taking 24 to 48 hours to attend to complaints.

If you are going to purchase tata sky please leave your plan ang go for other option. They increase charge frequently. I have purchased tata sky in Rs 4500. They said that they will charge 200 per month. But after three month they have increased their rates by 300. Now I have already invested 4500 for instrument of tata sky. So “ain to usko le kar phans gaya yaar”. If you will take cable connection you can watch extra movie which deliverd by your cable operator. But in tata sky if you want to watch a movie you will have to pay Rs 75 per movie which is so costly.

Buying a dish is a one time process. The strength of
the company lies in the after sale service/ support.

sales support of Dish TV is pathetic and deplorable.
We recently moved from Delhi to Noida. The Dish TV had

You can do this manually. Keep moving the dish & keep someone to check the strength near TV. You can see the signal strength from the installation menu. Even if you get 70%+ signal strength, it’s sufficient. Hope this gets the problem sorted out. Though this is the duty of dishtv, there is no point in waiting for them so long. If they again demand money from you,take them to consumer court. Just by making tis point, I’m sure the problem will get sorted out.

Adverts warning satellite TV decoder users ‘illegal’

Muscat: Authorities here have ruled out taking action against residents who use Dish TV, a satellite television decoder, since the service is not regulated in Oman.
They have also termed criminal prosecution warnings against such users through advertisements in local media as intimidating and unauthorised.
Dish TV is a direct to home satellite television service offered by Zee group in India and people in Oman easily receive these signals.
Recently, some of the television service providers issued half page advertisements in local papers warning people that they could be prosecuted for installing Dish TV decoders.
“We have nothing to do with the advertisements threatening criminal prosecution for using Dish TV decoders,” a top official at the Royal Oman Police Public Relations told Gulf News yesterday. Issues concerning the media, including advertisements, are handled by the ROP Public Relations.
“Residents in Oman are free to bring in satellite dishes from anywhere in the world provided they pay subscription for the same,” Colonel Mohsin Bin Alawi Al Hafeedh, Member Responsible for Policy, International Relations, Legal Affairs and Communications and Image at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, told Gulf News yesterday.
“Satellite television services are not regulated in Oman at the moment,” he clarified.
He said if anyone is breaching copyright, by using such decoders, then it has to be proved in a court of law in Oman. “Only if a court decides the breach of copyright law then action can be taken,” he said.
“Whoever pays monthly subscription is using the service legally,” he further elaborated.
Uncalled for
An Information Ministry official termed the advertisements uncalled for and not conforming to regulations in the country. “No private party can threaten residents with criminal prosecution by issuing such intimidating ads that contain handcuffs etc,” Sayyed Nameer Bin Salim Al Saeed, Director of Printing and Publishing, told Gulf News and added that the department would take up the issue with the local publications.
He suggested that the advertisement was more to scare the law-abiding Asian expatriate community in the country. “Such ads can scare Asians, who want to follow the law here,” he said.
“What is the authenticity of these ads?” questioned Chetan Jani, a long-time Omani resident and Dish TV subscriber. “I pay my subscription regularly and the signals are available here in Oman, so why can’t I use it?” he questioned.
Al Saeed was also of the view that watching Dish TV in Oman was not illegal. “As long as they pay subscription and it is not pirated they have the right to watch and pay fees anywhere in the world,” he said.
Both police and information ministry officials ruled out any raids or action against people owning Dish TV in the country.
However, Real Media Zee Network Vice-President for Marketing and Corporate Communications told Gulf News over phone from Dubai that it was illegal to use Dish TV decoders in the Middle East.
“We are now trying to work with the local authorities to stop the use of these decoders in the Middle East as they are meant only for the Indian market,” he said.
