Beneficiaries of Reservation

Karan Thapar in his interview of Arjun Singh raised a valid question. Why not make the reservation work for a single generation. If the father has made use of the reservation to get decent education/job, he would be in a position to help educate his son without any government help.

But, nope. This won’t make any sense to our minister. I have seen friends in school days who were sons of IAS officers who belonged to the reserved classes who took the advantage of their caste. Sons of IAS officers for god sake! Now, this is totally insane.

i was never a bright student. but i would hate the idea of getting admission based on my caste.

i am pro-equality. people should get jobs/admission based on talent.

  3. sameera Says:

I agree with what u said about ppl getting jobs/admissions based on talent. But also think of those who come from rural background and struggle to get jobs and admissions…and end up struggling their whole lives.

for that government has to improve education at the grass root level. have they done that?

government schools in villages either dont exist or are in bad condition. they can fix them to provide great education to kids.

than they would have greater chance to get admission in decent colleges of their own.

providing scholarships to people living under the poverty line to get education would also work.

but forcing colleges to take kids from backward classes is unfair and unrealistic. the only people who gets to benefit from this would be sons of OBC government officials.

second generation passing of these benefits is totally pathetic. if ur dad made it big using his caste as an excuse, you should not get that opportunity yourself.

i gave an example in my post. my friend was the son of an IAS officer. SC. and he loved using his caste as an excuse to get admission in a good college.

u and I very conveniently hold the government responsible for all this. But what about our sensitivities? Do we actually understand the whole issue devoid of caste linkages?

  6. Sushubh Says:

well. what i know is that we can live without the caste system in our country. we have better things to worry about than caste.

too much to read… my mind would blow up… :(

  9. sameera Says:

this is how most of us react…lack of interest to understand an issue which is so sensitive.

  10. Sushubh Says:

i dont think i will have any kids.

the government has given me enough reasons not to bring a life in this country.

  11. sameera Says:

hmmm…u think this is the only way out?

  12. Sushubh Says:

drinking beer and getting drunk has also helped at times. i am doing just that right now.

  13. Anil Says:

    Sameera,
I do understand the plight of people from lower castes sufferring in villages and backward areas but has the reservation policy which is in place for last 60 years now has helped them???? Face the reality the answer is “NO”. The reservation quotas are made use of by sons of IAS officers and most of the people entering primier collages today are those whose family incomes are more than 2lakh p.a. These students have best of facilities, drive swanky cars and get a score of 15 out of 150 in an entrance exam and still get admissions in good collages while the students from General category scoring 115 is also denied admission.

If you really want something good to happen to people in villages call for introuction of quotas on base of economic condition of family, offer scolarships to those students, offer rural quota but for God’s sake please leave the distinction on the basis of Caste. We got independence in 1947 and for last 60 years we have been shouting loud we want to get rid of caste system and here we go introducing another quota………. Bingo this is going Insane……

There are two ways to divide the soceity one is on religion and second is dividing Hindu soceity into caste like like BC,OBC,and SC, and the second one is Tamilnadu style since in second one final sufferers are so called forward class, they have no mouth, no voilence attritude, if they probably have voilent nature , our political parties may be afraid ofthem like all political parties are afraid of Muslim votes.Thisstye is dravidan tamilnadu style ofdividing hindu into caste snd Anti Hindi, since Hindi people are dusnman, they like english man and women, and with this political parties enjoy to rule delhi..
But this Tamilnadu dravidan partiescan come down to delhi and can rule since northindian are broadminded people and tamils are narrow minded selfish people.
