More on reservation

If the Indian parliament is so adamant about implementing the reservation quota policy… let us have 50% reservation in the Indian parliament. I had like to see half of our parliament, assemblies represented by the so-called weaker segment of the society.

They failed to implement the women’s reservation quota. Let’s see if they have the balls to do this. I had also like to see non-Indians barred from holding any government position in India. Jobs for Indians should be a priority you see. We are seriously not capable of putting foreigners at really important jobs around here.

India during its independence in 1947 introduced the community based reservation. Reservation was envisaged in such a manner that percentage reservation will get diminished over a period of ten years; by that time the suppressed communities (SC/ST/OBC) to be uplifted.

Unfortunately, after these 59 years of independence, the percentage reservation is getting increased and widened. Reservation goes like a never-ending process in India. Can the Policy makers / planners figurate exactly, when they can bring the reservation percentage to zero? Do they ever think of such things? No they ever. All these days they were thinking and planning only for their vote banks, not the prosperity of this Great nation, India. The recent decisions towards extending the reservation are the outcome of such Vote Bank Planning. Are these politicians in power ready to sworn out from the positions for their Dalit friends?? Can Prime Minister & HR Minister sacrifice their positions to their dalit leaders. I only meant the ideologies of political power holders in India. They are only interested in ensuring their vote banks.
Whether the reservation contributed any thing favourable to the SC/ST/OBC society? Reservation only gave some job opportunities, that also to some well off Dalits. Did our policy makers made a study on the impact of reservation? All these days we were trying give them(SC/ST/OBC) fish, instead of teaching them fishing. It is time for our politicians / Policy makers / Planners to learn lessons from the past 59 years experience in this issue and the ineffectiveness of uplifting the suppressed through reservation. Who is responsible for the ineffective usage of public money in this regard?? Increasing the reservation percentage is not solution for uplifting the suppressed. It is time for our planners/ politicians/policy makers to rethink and understand the mistakes they did in the past 59 years of independence.

Let us examine the flip side of the reservation issue. What it contributed to the nation??
    · Reservation recruited a layer of officials in the public/government service, which in turn contributed an inefficient performance to this nation as well as the public. This handicapped the whole system and resulted in dragging the nation behind. It is in this stage that officers cannot make a work order to SC/ST employees, which is often pictured as dalit harassment. Even th public where not able to ask their rights from such officers. I don’t ignore the efficient among the dalits
    · Reservation put only the inefficient above the efficient workforce, which in turn handicapped the whole system and reduced the performance index. I admire the efficient among the dalits.
    · Reservation widened the gap between the caste & communities, instead of equality.
    · Now reservation became the right to (SC/ST?OBC), the dalits. What about the financially backward upper caste people. Is it their mistake that he got birth in an upper class community? Are they to be dragged behind? Are they not the citizens of India? Then how we can ensure equality to such citizens??

Efficient Dalits are to be admired. They fought against the unfavourable situations and proved their efficiency. Dr. B R Ambedkar, came to the high posts of India from a poor dalit family. Why can’t our Pro-reservationists take that great man as their Role Model and get inspired? Did, he availed any reservation? No, definitely not. He proved his efficiency.

Reservation has become an outdated concept. Recently, “The week” published an article on this issue(May 28, 2006). Many dalit businessmen and proven personalities shared their views. They emphasised in empowering the suppressed through dalit entrepreneurship.

Do the dalit businessmen recruit 50 percent dalit workforce, in reservation basis without merit, in their enterprises? No, never they will take such a decision. They know it will collapse their business. Then why Policy makers and planners of this great country, India, is behind this SC/ST/OBC reservation? Do you need India to be collapsed? Do they need India in a more pathetic condition? Don’t you want India to be a developed country at least by 2020? So while formulating the Policy for such a great nation both the country’s prosperity as well as uplift of SC/ST/OBC citizens to be viewed and analysed with same importance.

Reservation in Jobs and Engg/medicine courses is not the solution for uplifting the suppressed communities of a developing country like India. Let us put the efficient & eminent personalities in all our systems, irrespective of his caste/community.
Reservation is an outdated affair. India can empower its SC/ST/OBC citizens.
    · Govt. can Provide financial assistance for dalit students, so that they can afford the costlier courses in and outside the country. teach them fishing instead of giving them fish.
    · Give awareness programmes to our dalits about the opportunities.
    · Promote dalit entrepreneurship which will make them confident and self sufficient. Empower the suppressed fellow citizens.

Reservation to jobs, AIIMS or IITs is not the solution. Let government take steps to make them competent to enter such prestigious institutions. On the other hand, recent Government decisions only deteriorate the output of such excellent institutions. Orientation to SC/ST/OBC fellow citizen is more important.

Friends in the politics are not really interested in uplifting the suppressed. They are presently focussing on creating their Vote banks. Policy makers and planners may approach this issue in such away that India can be a developed nation by the year 2020.

  8. SANGRAM BARAL Says:

Reservation is require for education upto 10th standrad. in higher education there is no more required, as they have well grown-up. because of them lots of good students are not geting a sit in good college.
Govt. should baan this reservation in servece, as they have equally in service. in the merit basis they should get a promotion or else without having a proper knowldge about the post if they will posted in a higher position they can take a wrong dicission due to their lack of experience and which will be cause a lot of problem for the nation. another thing if having a same date of joining one person will work as his boss after a few days to his colehue due to reservation other employees will not take care for office work.

The word reservation is wrongly used by the political parties and govt. The reservation should go to the real poor people of obc, and not to educated segment of obc and rich segment of obc.
presentely politically sound obc community and their big shots are only enjoying the beneficit.
Ask Government to take real true survey on OBC, and their real backwardness. Please do not give reservation to doctor, engineers, lwayars sons and daughter of OBC and SC, if again they give MEANS THERE IS NO MEANING FOR RESERVATIONS.
    It perpectuates caste polorisations.
