Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto

An interesting fact I read in news… last month, Hero Honda sold more scooters than the Bajaj Auto. The market leader was Honda. And apparently, Bajaj Auto which was once the dominating player in the Indian scooter market has currently just one model of scooters on sale today!

I find it totally interesting. Not surprising considering Indians now prefer to buy motorcycles to scooters. And of course, Hero Honda is the market leader in that segment! Bajaj Auto has transformed themselves to more of a bike manufacturer and this has screwed them in the scooters market!

I do agree that Bajaj has become now a major player in Bike industry and thus they have lost the market leadership in manufaturing/selling of Scooters. However, if we ask at least 10 people to their preferred scooters, they will soon reply that if theypurchase, it would be a Bajaj Chetak. Only brand name says it all

Legend, Chetak 4S, Saphire, Wave, Rave all flopped miserably shows that Bajaj didn’t understand how scooter works since 1948 !! They just manufactured blindly and assembled them according to Vespa’s drawings. Bajaj crystal is another born flop scooter !!

Look at Hero Honda and Honda , they flattened Bajaj in just one shot.

Bajaj’s bread and butter is just Pulsar 150, this bike still having complaints of gearbox, clutch system, right now it’s share is taken by Apache/New Unicorn/Achiever and ofcourse Xtreme. All bikes from Honda are reliable. Bajaj’s quest for No.1 slot is impossible. Hero Honda is known for reliability and good service to bikes n customers.

Bajaj will close it’s shutters b’cos the bad mouthing will happen from their customers itself….Bajaj owners will not recommend to anybody….sure one day it may have to close the shop.

    Shabash HONDAS !!

Bajaj Auto Sub-dealers are certainly the most un-happy among all brand of Indian Automobile Dealerships, no matter whether it is 4 wheeler or 2 wheeler dealership. Bajaj Auto subdealers are always busy to save them from their main dealers craftiness and have to compete with them for their survival. Bajaj subdealers have no energy left to compete with other competetive products and the company has no mentality to look after their subdealers. This is one of the biggest reason, why Bajaj still cant beat Hero Honda.

Like most of us in the age group of 40 and above, I once admired Bajaj like heaven on earth. Not anymore.

It is all about the un-innovative mindset. e.g., we hardly saw any change in the Bajaj autorickshaw models during its 30-40 years of history.

We cant blame only Bajaj for that. We Indians value the managers more than the designers while the Japanese (and Koreans now), value a designer as much as a manager. Even if a designer is valued in India, he or she needs to be in the R&D cell aligned to their managers and as a result all the creative mindset elsewhere in the organization have no role to play.

Well, you can easily beat a tumhara Bajaj.
