so why don’t they invest in better and more efficient sources of generating electricity?

why don’t they control theft and distribution loss…

delhi government alone loses approx 50% during transmission……… now that’s bloody awesome.

it’s similar to how the government fails to provide decent primary education to poor people and than put quotas for their admission in good colleges and now jobs.

maybe if they do their duties rather than indulge in politics (?? :P )….. things would be much better.

Govt allows anyone to setup their own power generation (but you need clearence that is another story). But that costs more money then buying it from govt.

That fact is govt looses money even at the commercial rates.

They either need to generate their own power (some MNCs do that to get uninturruted supply)

Or they have to obey govt if they are enjoying subsidised electricity.

In some parts of the US, you have to pay extra at peak hours if you want to use your AC or energy intensive appliances. Of course, a normal house might have 2-5 ton ac’s so if you only use a portion of it, your energy usage will not go up much. What constitutes normal electricity usage is also higher there.

What’s next? Government would ban for me to use my car to drive to Chandigarh coz fuel is in shortage?

Take my word, you will see what happened in the US during the 70’s happen in India too. India is not securing energy supplies at the rate demand is growing. This will come back to pinch India in the coming years as contracts expire. If the government cannot provide petroleum at reasonable prices, it will do the next best thing. Ban driving. i-(
