What to do with this breed of people?

Here is a guy named Gaurav Arora. He lives in Janakpuri. Runs a web-hosting company called Radiant Computers & Solutions. I had two websites hosted on his server coz he was a friend’s friend. He learnt the tools and tricks of the blogging world from what we did with our sites. One day, he got so frustrated with us using his server that he blocked us off from our own accounts. This came after I blocked him from posting comments on my sites coz he posted rude comments faking as a girl.

I had to move to a new host with a month old backup. I survived. However, he is still not satisfied. Yesterday, he sent me around 500 mails in a time-period of around 20 minutes. That overloaded my mail account and got me blocked from the server. He posted using my friend’s mail id but used his own web server (yeah, I am surprised myself at his idiocy). I tried calling him on his mobile. He picked up but as soon as he came to know it is me, he switched off the phone. In the end, I just sent him a mail asking for decent and professional behavior.

This post is just to show how frustrated I am, dealing with Indian people when it comes to business websites. Take the hint… Avoid friends and cheap Indian web hosts when it comes to business dealings. Only deal with reputed companies. They might be a bit expensive, but they are more professional. My recommendation is A Small Orange.

man - that sucks bigtime! however, the impression i get is that since he’s being hosting you for free for sometime, he probably has a reason to be aggrieved. however, since he also got valuable knowledge in return, he should probably be thankful to you as well. i guess asking for a nominal fee for hosting, or a promotional plug on your websites would have been the right way to go - certainly not the way he chose.

i think this kind of cussedness is found all over the world, and is not restricted to india alone… .tho in india its probably exacerbated in new delhi, where people tend to act first and then forget to think (i should know - i grew up there!). maybe its got to do with all the bio-gas coming from parliament that fries everyone’s brains. however, i’ve seen the “duniya gol hai” principle in action, and am pretty sure that at some point this action (or others like this) will come back to haunt him.

actually i was paying him for the hosting from day 1. and with no discounts. and he did not provide ANY support becoz his own administrator slept when I used to work on the sites.

  3. Sushubh Says:

about the promotional plug. actually problem started from there. he wanted me to host his banners on my site. i asked for a payment for adspace. he disliked the idea.

so i was paying for the webspace. and he wanted free banners in return. i should have moved that day myself… :(

the usual choices are: get mad, get even, or decide not to waste any more time on the insect. since u’ve obviously already gone thru step #1, u now need to decide on steps #2 or #3. that could depend on whether you can find another host soon - smallorange sounds interesting.

once you’ve got that sorted out, why not get your friend (the one who introduced you to this dude) to speak to him and find out what really got him so wired-up. i wouldnt recommend doing business with him again, but it will help you to read and understand the signals should this situaion arise again.

  5. Sushubh Says:

heh, i moved 2 months back when the hijack happened. totally my own control over my server atm. and yeah, i will get my friend to talk to him… maybe give him a visit myself the next time i go to delhi. no point being an idiot and start spamming him.

another point, do i know you! :D where did u drop in from… :p

  6. gourav Says:

    good for u then!

u dont know me. was driving my porsche on the internet highway, saw your posting on your day out in delhi, felt nostalgic and dropped in for a chat.

  7. SV Says:

Sushubh, thanks for the comment. You had asked “why not buy a domain and some webspace and run independently?”, well the answer is it is lot of hassle and work. With typepad all I have to do is blog once the layout is done. But if I had more time and inclination I would surely do what you suggested.

  8. Sushubh Says:

totally understandable :) and from my experiences with webhosts and webhosting its not much fun unless you have time. :)

    Really a bad experience…

Is “A Small Orange” an Indian Company.

  10. Sushubh Says:

nope. there are 3 things i like about them.

    1. they are hosted on theplanet servers.
    2. timdorr is a blogger himself. he is i believe one of the owners.
    3. support is excellent, prices are reasonable and they got a good repo at neowin.net

i say that u spam that bastard’s email id take his server down, only way to teach these kind of bastard’s , talkin wont help . as our ancestors said ” lato ke bhoot baton se nahin mante” :)

  12. Sushubh Says:

heh. he can afford to get banned from his servers… i cannot. :)
